Yes, quite different. Even with a hunting head a lion in close would still travel a bit of distance with a bit of a grump on regarding the owner of the arrow.
Dangerous game does not get treated lightly. I have a distant cousin in the 1900's who was killed by an elephant. I doubt cussies' bang-stick was effective enough...

I was rather surprised with those compound bows, as a family member was into that. Weirdly, the pull weight got lighter the further back it was pulled. Most interesting it was!

(with muchum practice, i'd trust an arrow to 50. A pro, maybe 70.)

Even scarier when a proper English Long-bowmen would be pulling 150-200 pound draw weight (estimated)
I own and hunted with bows ... (too old and broken to carry big animals out of the bush now - that's why I fish ...) I didn't use compound bows - but American Indian flat bows .. yes, I have put an arrow right through a deer - the deer walked over, sniffed the arrow, then fell over dead.

I would not pull and fire at an animal more than 20 yards away - as there is no gaurantee of a kill (well, there is no gaurantee of a kill even with a gun - you can miss) ... but the chances of only wounding the animal are that much higher ..

I've only used an English longbow once (belonged a mate) - it was awesome ...

Yeah - arrows kil by massive haemoraging .. in our bush the legal requiremernts for hunting arrows .. this is to assist with a major haemoraging (and also to prevent bow hunters going after our birds)

Mine eats wild food ... in fact, the first time I cooked dinner for her I accidently served her wild goat (I thought it was hogget) .. after the meal she complimented my cooking and I confessed it was goat .. her response? "I know ..."

I kept that one ... she complains when there is not enough wild food in the freezer ...

...I have killed most pigs I have encountered with a knife, where do I get my Knighthood...I shot arrows at bails as a sport a long while ago...I was a member of the Nonsuch Bowmans Assoc...the oldest bow shooting club, assoc, in existence. Henry (the eighth one) formed it so they could look after his Welsh arse...we shot 43 to 48 lb recurves...a full tournament of 1200 flights was a bit like a six hour endurance race...there were a bunch of big hairyarses that could actually hold, aim and accurately shoot a traditional longbow...90 to 100 lb...but not for long...half tournaments were not so bad, but the arms and shoulders still hurt some time later...I got really fucking good...as much to technique as strength...my first few hundred flights really fucked with my face and skin and also the skin off the inside wrist had to toughen up, big time...I just have a few 8 foot pointy sticks know...

Well historic photographic evidence showed the world that a certain "nude" Balvegus police officer was sporting a black mane when he upheld the law!

Rumour has it that his mane was the only thing that has "held up" for many years but he is optimistic that change (out of the blue) is imminent!

Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent in this report!

You say that like its a bad thing
They issued permits to kill bloody heaps of Lions each year, Only thing that is extraordinary here is this one that was killed was semi famous.
I don't think hunting lions is particularly that clever or should be done at all unless the population is over crowded.
But he is dead and likely to remain that way for the foreseeable future at least.
