I would rather believe I am real than know I am not real.

Interesting notion, but its been around for a few years (so nothing new) - from memory the key rebuttal to the philosophical debate was that the notion of Death in a Computer simulation is redundant and how does the simulation account for human reproduction.

but still an interesting notion, especially over a Bong or two.

Its an interesting idea - I have heard of the speed of light being referred to as the maximum "processing speed" of the universe. Will we eventually be able to create our own simulated universe within the simulation we are in - and how many simulations could be running at the same time The distance between planets and solar systems and the theoretical impossibility of being able to travel at anything near the speed of light could be seen as a convenient way to keep us from stepping out of the limits of the program.

    I think therefore I am.
Matrix, even Men in Black played with the idea. Like was said it goes back a long way, longer than history.
Just another way of looking for the meaning of life.
As to the distance between planets, the human animal is working on it, they are re-examining the theory that limits this. A theory devised on a tram traveling away from a clock tower, whilst it forfilled a purpose is perhaps a bit simplistic

The Theoretical Physicists that come up with these ideas aren't usually high, sad reflection on the general public that they need drugs to even try and understand it.

Unless the simulation is supposed to simulate a "what if" scenario... Then death is entirely needed as is reproduction & they both need to be as accurate as possible to the devs society (God's image if you want to get biblical)
Hell us computer simulations even introduced death & birth into our simulation game The Sims just to give some realism

Don't be so certain - From memory LSD has had a helping hand in some of the Physics breakthroughs

Disagree - Unless there is a reliance on any organic matter that degrades over time, then there is no need for death, unless you go down the Matrix line of:

"Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world where none suffered, where everyone would be happy? It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believed that we lacked the programming language to describe your "perfect world". But I believe that, as a species human beings define their reality through misery and suffering. So the perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from."

If I wanted to find out say what would have happened if Germany had won WWII [Godwins law invoked] then I would need to have my simulations live & die like we do otherwise I would never have an accurate simulation like wise if I wanted to see the effects of introducing say a new "medical breakthrough" I would need it to affect the simulation as it would us incl death otherwise I don't have accurate data

You seem to be thinking too much "here and now" but there's a good chance we're a "long term study" going generations, & our decades might only be mere minutes to them

Yes, but not in the way you think it is.

The speed of light is slow in the grand scheme of things.
