    Offroad buggy

Wrong place for this, but hoping someone has dealt with something like this and can point me in the right direction.

I've just bought an off road buggy (this thing ) and I want to put an A-Frame on the front so I can tow it around (Beach, woodhill, etc).

Does anyone know of the legal requirement for this is? Do I have to get a trailer rego/wof type thing to tow it? Anyone got a link? All I've been able to find is that its not recommended, but it is legal to put a A-Frame on an off-roader, but there was no mention of legal requirement for rego/wof (as the only time it will be on the road is when towed).

    Cheers,

Pretty sure if the wheels touch the road, it needs to have a wof and reg

You may be better looking at forums for off roading, as I doubt it would be new stuff to them...

I see the kiwibiker lawyer service is operating in overdrive.

I used to tow a old hunting landrover around on an A frame and got this in writing from the LTSA.

You are allowed to tow a unredgistered unwof'd vehicle on the road provided it is disabled and unable to run. I believe it is 50kph on a tow rope and 90 kph with an a frame.

Pull the rotor out and its disabled.

you are going to be better off trailering the buggy as nine times out of ten
it goes back on the trailer broken.

A framing a vehicle, the vehicle has to hold a current wof and reg.

I think yours is a early Cougar frame given that the VW front end
unbolts and style of the side bars..

    i went though this....
the info I got from the AA was....

if towing on a A-frame or tow dolly.. the towed vehicle is no longer relieing
on it's own brakes or steering.... So WOF & rego are not required..
but the tow cars number plate has to be seen from the rear...
For $18 you can get a supplarmenty number plate that has the same rego
number as the towing vehicle... got mine from the LTSA web site...

if useing a tow rope..WOF & Rego are required...

Mostly going to be used up the beach in the beginning, but once I get the hang off it I'll try racing, at which point I'll invest in a trailer but in the mean time I want to just save some money and tow it.

hehe, yea I raced a lot in my younger day. without looking at the frame close up I really can't tell you much
front looks cougar but it could be a pengal (sp) frame as well.

you needed big balls as the buggers never went where you wanted them to but still great fun.
you only start breaking stuff when you start making serious Hp and speed my old Challenger
would do 120mph in the taupo forest ..

Just keep your thumbs outside the steering wheel because sure as shit Id bet its got the hell
bump steer and the first thing you lose is your thumb nails..

oranz.co.nz for the rule book and bits..

Racing.. you think motorbikes are a black hole that swallow money....
the one thing that you could do with it is go flat tracking at either the waiuku dirt track club
    or the meremere club,

Cheers for the info. If you feel like reliving your youth let me know (I'm well past my youth, but still young at heart!)...once its all up and running (just need to install the engine, and check a few things) I'd love to pick the brains of someone that knows them. Its only got a 1300cc VW engine so no serious HP to deal with at the moment (which is probably for the best regarding my skill!)...hoping its good to learn on and then go from there if I want to keep it up.

Laughs, I will have a think about it, since its got a C on the bonnet that's challenger class, meaning it should be a 1600cc
if its a 1300 race class 7, which is very regulated ( hence its driver skill not the cheque book that wins )
there is a whole lot of tricks and stuff, about the frames, suspension and motors..
