Taiwan has always been on Red China's to do list..

America backed both China factions against Nippon, they really didn't like either corrupt Chiang or commie Mao though..

Roosevelt's war aim was to destroy non-American Asian empires, Nippon, Britain, France, Netherlands..
Cold-war/Roosevelt's death - altered this emphasis somewhat..

In late 1945 surrendered Nippon troops were used in Indonesia/Indo-China - to help suppress Asian local independance moves..

The B29 program cost more than the Manhatten Project.

B-29 production/delivery price was ~$600,000 a pop.. & operating them cost a bundle more on top of that..

& it was the only suitable bombtruck - the USAAF had - to do the nukin' with.. then..
