    Cpi gtr180

Seemed like a good idea at the time.

30mins later im pulling it apart lol.
GRRR Piston melt down and pressurised bottom end blowing oil out a makeshift collector bottle system with hose running out to the number plate chuffing like a chimney. Now I can find a 61mm head gasket to suit it. Its a GY6 engine bit with a liquid cooled top end and wider than normal rods to allow for the cooling jackets. Seems only air cooled gasket sets exist.
    Further research required.
Ordered new piston and ring set. I hope I don't need crank it down on the original head gasket. Good news is the bore only has very light marking that will hone out. Maybe ill lift the compression while im inside.

If anyone knows anyone with gtr180 or gy6 169cc liquid cooled parts please let me know.

If its not working I guess I can strip it for parts seeing as they are hard to get.

Im having no luck finding a head gasket.
Malossi sport 169cc has a similar design and is obviously using the same supplier of head gaskets.

The original head gasket is in really good condition. Its likely ill have to re-use it.

The Guy I bought it off is arguing with the guy he bought it from now about who should give me a part refund on the scooter or if the should both give me a smaller amount each.

    A little boy waits.

I still cant find a head gasket.
If anyone can track one down let me know.
    CPI GTR180 (169cc water cooled).

Also isn't it a requirement to have available parts for 7 years after sales of a new vehicle in NZ?

Maybe I should contact the original shop.

Not the end of the world. A thin smear of hi temp silicone both sides makes up for a few minor imperfections. Re-torque in reasonably small increments.

Im trying to work out what the head gasket metal is.
Others have tried flame heating some types to swell them before using them.

Your suggesting torque down then run a short heat cycle then re-torqueing while hot. Repeat a few times?

They're usually a composite, metal skin on a fiber core, usually with a fire ring around the bore hole. Never tried heating them so I can't comment.

Without a manual I'd torque the four main studs 1,3,2,4 to 60%, then the same pattern to 70%, 80%, 90%. Then fit and tighten any short base / perimeter bolts, then the main studs 100%. An old gasket won't crush as much after a heat cycle but why wouldn't you re-torque it again anyway?

Yep just wondering if you were meaning multiple times.
I have a downloaded manual now.

I was wondering what my chances of success would be like.

The good news is I have talked the previous owner into refunding me some monies which is enough to cover the parts.
Its very hard to tell with parts what exactly will happen as the piston height is 1mm taller with deeper valve recess so it my end up with increased compression but maybe not lol. Could be a performance part.

I've re-used head gaskets on 4T singles many times with no real issues, had more problems with base gaskets.

Great, at least you'll know what's inside there.

You could fit the head without the gasket, put a 1mm layer of Plasticine on the piston and turn it over by hand. Is the bore OK?

Bore is ok. Some slight marks so will hone only. Will need see if piston matches before then. Bore is 61mm so should match.
Its hard when you cant get parts from the source. GY6 piston should work ok fingers crossed.

Rest of the bike is mint with 6th km other than a section of colour up front that needs some love.

Piston arrived and is a flat top rather than dome but a match. Barrel is in getting a hone. $28.00
Unable to get another head gasket but the engine rebuilders have recommended and spray on product to paint the gasket with before assembly which has a high success rate. I should have written it down but ill get the name when I collect the barrel. if that doesn't work there is a place in Tauranga that will replicate a gasket from the original for under a hundy.

Measure up and post a pic of the piston with the bore the dome height pin size the skirt length and the comp height Mossy.

Its already on the conram thingy waiting to penetrate the bore.
I measure things with my wifes sewing tape measure.
Headmaster Engine Reconditioners have my jugs also.

    Question

Compression rings. One has r1 and the other r2. Assume r1 is the top and the lettering r1 faces upwards? No instructions with the piston. Rings are set at 120degree spacing and not lining up with the pin.

You still have the original piston Mossy
Ask one of the Uni-age neighbours if they have a vernier.

I still have it downstairs. Its 61mm bore gy6 jug 169cc liquid cooled.
Piston is the same as a standard 61mm gy6 61mm bore but the one I got is high compression. Difference is it flat top at same height as the dome top centre with valve recess same as original so will have its increased compression from the higher edges.
Its a match I took the piston to the rebore guys to see if it was good to just hone and install.
