Thread: Maori King's new claim for a substantial part of Auckland

You Jafa's need to shut up and listen when the King of Huntly speaks. We need to sell our coal, so we will be keeping the power here for the Waikato Stadium and our advanced hydroponic plantations, you will need the coal so you can cook on open fires in the streets.

Out of interest how has all the money from the TOW reparations benefited the Iwi on the street? I see the likes of Sonny Tau on the tele and wonder how well the dosh filters down.

I used to live near the Battersea Power station and it was a decaying monument to the era of coal, now look at it.

Do that to the Huntly Power station, get some decent coffee and watch the Jaffas roll down the aisle to it.

This will cop me some flak :p

    My theorys are :

A/ The Maori should be thankful for the treaty not use it to scam all the NZers .... after all, they got the treaty going cos the French were heading to take NZ .... and look at history, had the French got here first there wouldn't be any Maori today as they would have slaughtered them ...... oh much like the Maori did to the Moriori

B/ Didn't the treaty have a 100 year expiry on it??

C/ When did "Final Settlement" stop meaning just that??? haven't a few of the tribes had a final settlement with no more claiming??? to turn around and make more claims??

I was raised on a Pah before you throw the Racist bit at me ... oh and have a Maori wife!!

One concern I have always voiced is the facts that the run of the mill Maori benefit nothing from the payouts ..... they still struggle and have very little... and the very 3 things Maori (and all NZers) need is being whittled away ..... HEALTH WELFARE EDUCATION ....... Id rather see NZ back to what it was when I was living at Kotu ... ONE PEOPLE ONE NATION ...... all the claiming is doing is causing division .... that's not the kiwis fault .... its the Maori as they are very much proving time and time again they are take take take .... a Maori guy once asked me what IWI stands for, I said the people group ... he said Nah Bro it means I WANT IT ....he was joking ..... but look at the recent history ....... maybe he was hitting the nail on the head

I jokingly said to my Moriori friend (yes there are still descendants around) that if you look at LAW, the Maori waltzed in and took the land off the residents here so that's theft isn't it .... then they sold it to the European .... that's receiving stolen goods ..... so lock us all up LOL

NO ....I'm not racist ....While I agree there probably were injustices you need to look at the big picture .... the Maori stole the land and they say the white man stole it off them...... so why not the Maori compensate equally, the Moriori for the land too??? ....
I just think there is no end to the take take and its crippling our country and causing division amongst the people, I say forgive, forget and get back to one people one nation!!

I don't think pre European there was much of a concept of " property ownership"
The Europeans Colonised which pretty much meant looting and pillaging, and converting everyone to Christianity, that's how it was, French, British,Spanish and so on.
The Chinese oops Overseas Investors ( mainly Canadian Pension Funds...yeah right) are doing the same but paying for it.

No wonder there are so many sick people clogging the health system with '' IN-curable" diseases. You all need to chill the fuck out. Life is too short to get your panties in a bunch about every little thing that the "MEDIA" tell you.

Maybe you should read a bit of history. Moriori were not pre Maori.

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/4789...ory-of-Moriori

Moriori are the indigenous people of the Chatham Islands (Rēkohu in Moriori, Wharekauri in Māori), east of the New Zealand archipelago in the Pacific Ocean. These people lived by a code of non-violence and passive resistance (see Nunuku-whenua), which made it easier for Taranaki Māori invaders to nearly exterminate them in the 1830s.

During the early 20th century it was commonly, but erroneously, believed that the Moriori were pre-Māori settlers of New Zealand, linguistically and genetically different from the Māori, and possibly Melanesian. This story, incorporated into Stephenson Percy Smith's "Great Fleet" hypothesis, was widely believed during the early 20th century. However the hypothesis was not always accepted.[1]

By the late 20th century the hypothesis that the Moriori were different from the Māori had fallen out of favour amongst archeologists, who believed that the Moriori were Māori who settled on the Chatham Islands in the 16th century. The earlier hypothesis was discredited in the 1960s and 1970s.[

The "history" of this country as we know, It is the biggest crock of shit bordering on criminal fraud by a bunch of bludgers that want everything given to them without having to work for it.

European were here way before anyone that is brown.
Don't try to enter the Waipoua forest though. You will get threatened & your car will get vandalised, that is until all the pre Maori artefacts have been removed or destroyed as is currently happening.

Even if that was the case, (and it's not even fucken close), the Maori were here and had a form of government before the English arrived. They couldn't just take it, by their own laws. So a treaty was needed. Which whitey promptly ignored.

    Basically it doesn't.

There was a settlement locally where one guy did very nicely out of it, but sadly made bad investments. The iwi is broke and the "primary beneficiary" was living in Fiji last I heard.

The various lawyers are doing very nicely though. Those that haven't been done for tax evasion or otherwise fiddling the books.

It's going to be a big job (and jobs) to pull the coal plant down...but The Two Towers need to stay - how will the Jafa's find their way home? And we need something better than the Deka sign.

It would be a major undertaking to dismantle the overland conveyor - it'd make a good adventure walk. I'd like to ride through it of course.

"a chief puts land under his peoples feet, he does not usurp it" (spoken of queen liz by an africunt)

the idea of division, individual ownership etc is a pretty white one, yellow, red, brown or black, all embraced community 'ownership', had large families, multiple generations in one place, multiple wives, and welcomed the remotest cuzzies into their homes freely.
    (compare to crackerfullas...)

Not to minimise the whoppings and stompings they dished out, but the basis of 'societies' was a swag more wholesome than whitey and jewgold.
