Thread: FXR 150 sputters/bogs at 8k RPM but once it gets past 8k the power comes on its fine?

    Angry FXR 150 sputters/bogs at 8k RPM but once it gets past 8k the power comes on its fine?

    Ok recently got a Fxr 150 off a mate and it has this problem where no matter how much throttle you give it, as soon as it hits 8k RPM and always 8k RPM it sputters/bogs for about 1 second or 2 then the power band comes on and it shoots past 8k up to the redline. His dad has about 40 motorcycles so I think his dad knows what hes doing with his bikes and he told me he has cleaned the carb multiple times but it still bogs at 8k rpm. any tips or advice on where to start with the problem?

    More info: hes the type of guy that doesnt really treat his bikes well in terms of riding style and cleaning so I think when he said he cleaned the carb I think he just cleaned the bowl and the main jets rather than taking it apart 100% and cleaning it. I don't know. what do you guys think I should try?

    I'd clean the carb (pilot jet esp) but also check the CV boot at the top is in good order. Also check air filter, if foam wash with petrol, dry and use proper filter oil.

    This probably won't be helpful but I'd:

    A. Give it back
    B. Upgrade
    C. Ride below 8K revs
    D. Spend money on a mechanic

    My daughter had one and we loaned it to an 80 year old friend over from Oz for a tour around NZ with a group of us. He rode it like a Nana and it ran like a POS when he'd finished with it. I took it out for a good hard flog and it came right after a while.

    The jets get clogged up and the air filter element had disintegrated and sucked it in the carb and dispersed it around the country. Ride em hard I say

    D. Spend the money on nice Marlborough savs. I mean we aren't all savages and they are cheap and world class. But the boundary pilsner is worth a go.

    Check power valve is functional.. ah wait on.. its not an RGV 150?

    Sorry, forget that.. & do this..

    Chuck that lazy 4-stroke lump in the nearest wheelie bin, & slot an RGV mill into it..

    Thanks for the help guys, I will give the carb a good tear down and spend a few hours cleaning it and I will also clean the filter to. I will get back to you after im done with that. Got to say I am pretty jealous of my cousins RGV 150... it pulls like a beast for a little 150.

    Its fixed.

    how? the cold weather made it run worse so it made me think about air density and fuel/air clip settings so I decided to ride around with the choke full on to compensate for it and it pretty much ran with no bogging or stuttering so I then took off the carb and took apart all the jets and cleaned them with gas and a needle to scrap off the dirt and then I got the needle clip on the throttle and set it to the richest setting, put it all back together and fired it up and when I took off I was expecting it to be 10x worse just because of luck I have with bikes but nope it was 100% fixed and the bike felt twice as powerfull. I even got upto 115kmph in gear 4 which the fasted I could get upto before on it with the bogging was around 90ish in gear 4, havent tested it on a high way in gear 6 yet though but im so happy its fixed
