Its really hard to get Opium in the states due to the trade embargo as most of the money from it was getting funnelled into terrorists.

Well colour me ignorant.
I believed heroine to be a synthetic. Just looked it up, one of the ingredients is indeed morphine.
A semi synthetic of opium.
An extract of a poppy.
So I guess what I have learned today is I know little about drugs and heroin while not natural is not a synthetic as I had been led to believe.

Meh. Not an expert, I thought I recalled that acetone over a certain volume requires a license in the US at one time because it was commonly used in the manufacture of heroin and meth by back yard chemists.
It is also commonly used in many solvent applications including nail polish remover, tar remover etc. hence not being outright banned.

although in saying that, acetone is produced (so natural) in the body (hilariously, can kill you).

IIRC from high school Social Studies (some 25-30 years ago) , Acetone was last popular with biker drug barons in the 70's.
Bans on acetone caused a reduction in the availability of "angel dust" and meth, largely blamed by most pundits on the explosion of Coke / heroin abuse. Had little to no effect on the production values of Heroin for the double reason of Heroin is rarely imported as precursors and Acetone was popular as a catalyst not a cutting agent.
Resulting in a decade taste forgot that had some truly awesome bands.

Acetone.. is on the shelf at Bunnings & etc, a common, or garden - unrestricted solvent.. its good as a fuel additive, keeps H2O from settling out..
