Anyone actually owned/ridden one of these?
Back in the day stories of TS 185's do not count.
one of my mates brothers was one of the top rotary engine mechanics in the South Island, and my mate had a seriously quick RX7 (when that was a hella expensive car). He decided on a whim one day to buy an RE5 and sourced one out of Welly. I got to put it on the ferry and ride it down the coast.

It was great. Very expensive on fuel as I recall, heavy, but made a great noise and very very smooth. I was riding my yellow "Custard Tart" CB750 F1 at the time and it was a fair bit more refined than that. I really liked the little mouth at the front of the exhaust to feed cool air into them to stop them exploding or something.

    would trade again.

Commando sold for 16K, 2.5K above reserve.
The KB optimistic sellers will need to keep saving as classic prices go up

For a ten year old Bonnie that's what they should be selling for. For some reason shops and punters put silly prices on them. They are not a special bike.

The frame looks to have been build by a company that did school chairs and tables.
When they came out I have just bought my Darmah, saw them in Frazers and thought far too much bodywork, can see why now.

Sure beat putting together endless 4 wheelers.
While not as grunty hpwise as a RZ or RG500 i thing they were a better road bike.

In one of the other pics is a Blue BMW I sold him, and behind that another that Hugh Anderson used to own.
