I already did part of it (Taupo/Napier parts). I intend to do the second part in a week or three after I get my bike serviced. Plan to do the second part in one ride and will take about 18 hours all up to get there, ride the second part, and get home. Was going to split it further but 400km each way just to get to the area buts a limit on how many trips over.

Will have to see if the rear tire has enough km left in it for 1600km as well. It still has a repair in it from the TT2000

Me too. 3 ferry crossing as well or a lot more travel if you don't take them. Have all the GPS points marked but have two that are maybe not quite right.
Planning to go up to Auckland this coming Wednesday so may knock off the first 5 checkpoints and then do the rest over two days in January.

I've done the last two Northern Odysseys and thoroughly enjoyed them. I plan to do the current one in March next year.

Off again in February with a mate, we've done three Northern Odysseys, he does it on a Vespa PX200...

Just read Instruction 3 which states: At Exit 16, turn Left onto Lincoln Rd, follow for 1km then take Left turn onto Universal Drive, then Swanson Rd.

This should read: Right turn onto Universal Drive

I have looked at the ride on a map.
Going to do it in several goes.

80 % will be new roads for me.

Got dizzy just looking at the map.

Not sure about ferry crossings 3x
Might take road option sure it's a few more kilometres

Even a visit to Azkle abode might be on the cards

If i get a chance may give the local Auckland ones a go tomorrow.

Should really change thread title to either Northern Odyssey or start a new one for each year?

Yeah, v careful after last weeks experience.
nah, on the old girl, she’s setup for extra power, gps, lights etc and much better on gravel tooooo
and I am much more confident about fuel etc
    nearly 10k of gravel today.

there is a loose sheep approx 10 km South before Port Albert, attacks motorcycles. Hides in the shadow and darts out.
lots of tar bleed and dips mainly on the outer edge of the road in some places.

Not much traffic, and I let everyone through when I could. Avoided a head on, by doing this in one instance. Quite a few impatient drivers esp in the more $$$ areas.

brillant sunshine almost all the way round. Aparantly it was raining in Sud Auckland lol.

bike did well, rider not bad. Took my time, saw the video upstairs in the Marsden Point visitors centre. Someone else commented on here about this, yes it’s well worth it. The nice lady reset the video just for me runs for 20 min every 1/2 hr.

1/2 done now. Just north of dargaville whangarei section to go.
    looks like an overnight trip.
    thurs
