    Nasty accident - minor injury

Far out that was lucky or maybe skilful...

Managed to stop the bike lessening the collective impact speed which still must have been considerable but good luck to you and your family sir. Well done and happy you survived!

Hell yeah, so so lucky. I had my femur shattered in an accident that involved both parties going less than 40kph!

Poor buggers! When i first read the article I thought they pictured the rego of the car as well.

Just glad that they have made it relatively unscathed given that the outcome could have been horrendous. Poor wife too traveling on her bike behind them and seeing it!

I hope they throw the book at the driver if the reporting of what other witnesses had said about his driving before the accident are true.

No blame was placed on the mototorcyclist.

That road is a brilliant motorcycle road ... but it can be very unforgiving if errors are made.

Very much a popular tourist road.

The legal perspective on that interests me as it seems hit and miss across a variety of publications... wait our resident bush lawyer experts....

The article mentioned 'alcohol wasn't a factor' with the idiot driver.

But I wonder what else he had taken - surely he couldn't drive that poorly unless he was impaired by some substance?

Or am I expecting too much...

Glad the riders are not too badly hurt.

Once again we have 'journalists rabbitting on about something they know nothing about. That portion of SH6 is NOT the Devil's Staircase.

The Devil's Staircase is a short portion of the 'Lake Road' about 10-15 km south of that place. When viewed from a few km further south it looks like a staircase. It starts, as I recall after you cross a one-way, (or it was last time I crossed it,) bridge and continues for about? 5km towards Frankton. There was talk of upgrading the bridge, but I think the Historic Places Trust or some such outfit objected.

Doesn't have to be a substance:
    Lack of Sleep
    Lackanookie
    texting
    Mood
Flashing engine lights or abnormal guages
    Fatigue
    Cold
    Heat
    Hunger
    Justin Bieber music
    Many more

All known to impair a driver / riders / pedestrian decision making.

He must have hit the jack-pot and been afflicted with all in the list above, it scares me that we share the roads with the mentally incompetent like this arse-wipe.

It is now two way (just) .... but heading north to Queenstown from that bridge ... is 30 km's of dodgy road.

Ok, I always understood the first few km from the bridge were what formed the Devil's Staircase.
