It it not necessary to keep up on "High speed" rides ... especially if your ability to do such is lacking. The desire to do so is often there with some though ....

Who you choose to ride with is your business ... but choose carefully .... one of them might kill you.

Or ... your stupidity might kill one of them.

why would 'everyone' feel the 'urge to go faster'?

You still cant seem to comprehend that fast does not equal death or injury.

Many riders die in bed too ... a lot more there ... than on race tracks ...

The Nissan Mistral that nearly fucked me up wasn't a Holden and it didn't have any disco lights - in fact it didn't even have indicators that worked...

The old 'swing to the left without indicating, hesitate a second then swing right to do a U-turn also without indicating.

Amazing how quickly you can move an Ultra when the need arises...

The maximum speed limit in Rarotonga is 50kmh & it has a population of approximately 20,000 yet more people fuck themselves up on bikes there in a week than in NZ.
Yep, slower must definitely be safer.

Sadly, no. That is their "default statement" no matter what happened.

    E = 1/2(MV^2)

    Where E is Kinetic Energy
M is the Mass of the object
    and V is Velocity

And on a technical note Cassina - Speed has never killed anyone. Sudden deceleration exceeding 20G however has been known to be rather fatal.

The funniest thing is - I get the point you are trying so clumsily to make:

When people ride too fast for the conditions/their skill level - then should something small go wrong, there is less time to correct/react/not die then at slower speeds.

However the speed at which something is defined as too fast is relative to various factors, so simply stating that 'Speed is Bad m'kay' without defining what other factors may or may not be relevant would be like me saying that Panadol is bad because you can Overdose on it.

There are times when for me, it is safe to exceed the speed limit by a generous margin - due to all the factors being in my favour (nice weather, straight and wide well maintained road with no side streets/driveways to worry about, a barrier in the central median, light to no traffic etc.) and conversely there are times when it would be unsafe for me to ride AT the speed limit (shitty weather, unfamiliar roads with poor visibility and poorly maintaned, no road markings, plenty of driveways, medium traffic)

Without clarifying or even acknowledging that speed limits are ultimately an arbitrary number set by someone who most likely can't remember much in the way of physics and that above all else, it is the road conditions and rider skills that play the biggest part in determining what a safe speed is and what an unsafe speed.

Fast can be safe, Too fast is almost never safe - but what numbers we assign to these values varies between situations, riders, bikes, roads etc.

You see, its because you were posting in a group thread and felt pressured to keep up. If you post in your own thread then you won't feel the need to post outside your abilities.
