Crimea had been trying to gain full independence from Ukraine since 1992 and their efforts were continually blocked by the Ukraine government.

Russia protected the Crimean peoples right to determine that outcome.

Yeah Steve , of course Germany was also invaded by Poland in WW2 as well.
So its just a huge co-incidence that both Crimea and Syria are home to Russia's only offshore Naval bases.

Nope, and was unaware until recently that the first MIG jets as seen over Korea were powered by a Rolls Royce designed engine, I need to do less shed and work time and more Googling.

Time? - so little left, so much to know, wheat and chaff sorting is a real killer - at least in the shed you are always in charge of the outcomes. Cheers, John.

A gift from the poms "here, have some engines" but they didn't expect the technology transfer to happen so fast.
The NKVD already had that under control, as samples of the metals used in the engines were back in Moscow and under analysis before the actual engines arrived there.

Also the Americans used Whittle's designs and technology in their first jets, with Whittle flying in a lancaster with sample engines and plans to educate the septics.
