Since found out this is not that rare with car tyres,never come across it before but recently bought a new (to me) car with what i knew at the time to be shit rubber but thought i would see them out and replace,things went bad quickly and the pic says it all really,this was on the front which we took off the other day...other side also had cracks and no doubt would have gone this way soon,before buying the car i had it on a hoist and went over it with a fine tooth comb and like i said i knew the hoops were crap but didnt imagine this would happen,would ave been interesting iif it had come to bits at speed eh...

That doesn't normally happen, by the time they're about to come apart your vehicle is vibrating so badly you'd have to be a complete muppet to keep going

This one wasnt,drove it back from Invers and all ok then on the way back from Timaru the other day things went bad,you seen many like this W? Whilst your here Toyo Proxes T something or rather any good? worth mentioning that the local Beaurepairs stuck the car on there hoist and gave it a wheel alignment with that hoop on it,the other side had easily visible cracks on the inside as well.May well go get another alignment done elsewhere as to be fair ive not much faith in there work.

As i hadnt either merv though out of interest did a search on the net and it seems its not that rare,if indeed they go bang at speed things go very bad.

Saw a bit of that late 90's early 2000's - a couple of outfits in ChCh were bringing in low mileage used tyres. Word got around eventually and their sales died off. As W said, by the time they got to that point they'd been shaking badly for a while....

Kicks probably going to tell me there shite (hes in the game) but shelled out for a set of Toyos to replace the fucked ones though if the nets to be believed many big name tyre makers have had similar things happen.

Was some interesting reading re new Goodyear rubber they fitted to early Ford 4wd shit boxes that seldom went near dust let alone dirt,steel belt seperation (or similar) they called it which saw many tip over on the highway when the thing exploded.

Most people don't give a shit about car tyre pressures but larger wheels and lower profiles mean they should. One of the factory fitted tyres (Dunlops) to the Falcons and XR's needed the pressures up or they would crack sidewalls.

When you are done with the Toyos, give some Bridgestone hoops a go. I found the Toyos too soft in the sidewall for my Ute.

The Bridgestone's made a huge difference to the way it drove.

And I have seen that issue before. On Dunlop's that came out new on a lot of the Fords.

Most tyre failures that go bang are a result of punctures and pressures getting to low, to much flex and heat built up

Yeah, what they dont say is that it happened on those vehicles with pretty much every brand fitted, they didn't have single failure of that type in NZ, probably because we didn't run the stupidly low tyre pressures they did
