Coming for a visit!

Hi all,
I'm coming to suck up your oxygen for a month in early november and just thought I give you all a warning!!

"White Trash" suggested I check out your site and make some contacts.

If anyone has any suggestions on "must see's" or "must do's" I'd appreciate hearing of them.
Also, I'm debating between renting bike and jusy buying a beater to scoot around on. Does anyone know the rules with any of this?
Also, I got permission to pack my leathers, so a source for a trackday or two would be sweeeeeettttt!!!!!

Only a couple of hints. We drive on the left

No need to buy a beater either. What's your rental/buy budget? I'm sure we can help come up with something that will be fun. What's your preferred type of bike for this trip? Sportsbike or Sport Tourer?

Must see and do? Just stop wherever it looks interesting and stay off State "Highway" 1 as much as possible.

I'm sure I would have creayed quite a scene trying to stay right!
I have haerd the driving is actually easy to get used to, it's crossing the street that is supposed to be the challenge. So, between that and the many accusations I've received of being a closet blonde, I suppose I shall be adorning the front of a metro bus at some point!

Budget wise, we havent decided how much to do on bicycles or car yet vs on bikes. The need for two bikes is the big limiter. That is why I was thinking of a beater or beaters. My freind rides a VTR250 here and she's quite content with that.
I don't have a stret bike right now, but I race a cbr400 and think I'd be happy with anything from a vtr250 type to a sv650.

I'd suggest snowboarding down in Queenstown, or a bit of Quad Biking and Touring around Taupo.

What to see and do?? there's just so much. If your hear for a month then things to see in the north island in my opinion are

Bay of Islands
Rotorua
Gisbourne Area
Wellington

Then the South Island we're do you Start
The West Coast
Wanaka
Queenstown

Just a few ideas but I'm sure others on the site will come up with more.

Snowboarding in November? Sounds like fun, where do I sign?

Hey Wally, glad you could make it, we're a little quicker to poke fun than the SBR crew but don't let it bother ya too much.

Keep an eye on the online trading section here and www.trademe.co.nz as an idea of what bikes go for here.

You're welcome to use mine while you're touring but you'll get fuck all gear on it.

Kia ora and welcome to the KB site.

Lots to see and do in NZ... but where to start..

If you land in Auckland.... head north to the Bay of Islands... for a couple of days. Then come on back down and do the tourist thing at Rotorua... Taupo... heading south.. Go via Hastings/Napier to Wellington.
Cross over to the South Island and do one side of the coast and come back up the other side... If you make it to Bluff try their oysters... when you cross back on to the North Island again come back up via Wanganui to New Plymouth back up to Auckland.

Race tracks - there are a few around NZ... the others can tell you where they all are.

But just enjoy our scenery and hospitality... take lots of pictures....

You will want to came back to NZ again and again....

AND please stay on the LEFT HAND side of the road...
Do a quick read up on our road rules before you come... as they will be different to what you are used to in the states. www.lsta.co.nz I think it is.

The main ones to remeber, however, are that straight pieces of road are to be tackled on no more than one wheel. As per demonstration.

The cops get nasty if you're caught disobeying this rigorously enforced law.

And before Hitcher gives you a dressing down, Wally, here's some tips for a proper english speaking country.

Color is actually colour
Tires are in fact, tyres
And ass is always, ALWAYS arse.

Just for the giggle factor I'm sure you and your mates wil get form it, "Whakatane" is pronounced Fuck-a-tar-nei

Oh yeah, and "White trash" translates into cool, sophisticated top bloke with bloody huge biceps.

Hey man,

White trash forgot to mention that every traffic light is in fact a stoppie zone and drag strip. Pussying around here will incur demerit points.

West Coast of the Sth Island is a must. Pop into the Blackball Hilton for an overnighter too.

Give me a PM when your around Wellington and a bunch of us will show you around a bit while (demonstrating) out perculiar road rules.

Welcome to KB. You can get a book called the NZ Motorcycling Atlas, which has just been published. The cost is about NZ$30. It gives all the best roads for motorbiking. In the North Island my pick is the Bay of Islands and Cape Reinga to the North of Auckland. In the South Island, The West Coast from Karamea to Haast is a must - wild coast line and amazing scenery. Also in the South Island the road from Te Anau to Milford is a must and then do a trip on one of the boats out into the Milford Sound - it will take your breath away.
