    It will be New Years Day, roads should be pretty quiet in the morning? They usually are around here.

    Yep the roads should be quiet in the mornings (before 9am).

    If you do the SI in a figure of eight you will be able to fit Arthurs Pass in. Good luck with Franz to Wanaka in 2.5 hrs that's 287 kms with the most expensive petrol in the country.

    Fill up in Hoki then top off at Haast easy , maybe 160kms to wanaka after that.

    Yep, stunning views from Mt John, was there about two weekends ago but those bends up to it are gnarly on a big bike when a camper-van is heading down...

    Pfft, it doesn't make THAT much difference - unless you have a fuel budget rated in pennies.!
