Play with a digger for a day!

    Hey guys and gals!

It's mum's birthday coming up next Saturday. Dad's shouted her a trip to Rarotonga but us kids want to do one better!

Mum has always talked about 'a place overseas' where you can turn up and play with a digger/excavator for the day, you know, pick things up, crush things, roll over things etc. She's a child at heart, mind you, who on earth wouldn't want a day of "picking things up and crushing stuff?" I've done my best to find somewhere in NZ that offers such a service but have come up empty handed.

So the big question of this post... Does anybody know of anywhere in Auckland (or close to - can travel) where you can play with a digger/excavator for the day/few hours?

To add to it, the big idea is for her to unwrap an RC digger with a sandpit made up out the back of her house, somewhere in the sandpit will be the voucher for a day out with the real thing, that way she will have to prove her skills to get to the real thing (hopefully she fails because I am dead keen for this!) So does anybody know of a decent RC digger for under $200? I have searched on Trade Me and Google but have only come up with china plastic fantastic diggers with a cord (believe it or not they haven't heard of Radio Controlled yet)...?

Thanks for any help in advance!

    STEVEN

a hire company should have a 2t you can tow for about 30 buck an hour.

Lacks the awesome of a 20t though. Depending how convincing you are you may be able to get them to drop you a 13t. From memory theyre about 80 an hour plus cartage. Can do the fkn damage though.

Unlikely you'll get anyone else letting you in this day of osh.

There is quite often a digger school in bigger cities, they will probably let you dig a hole.

If you lived where I used to live in the UK I would suggest this:

    http://www.diggerland.com/

But since you don't I am being completely unhelpful.

    A workmate did exactly this.
Had a few cubes of soil dumped and then a small digger on a trailer from hirepool/kennards type of place.

He said it was flat out all day! Everyone wanting to have a play on it with everyone smiling.

The soil got used around the property, so was useful work getting done as well.

    Good entertainment for everyone!

Cheers for the tips guys. Trouble is - yeah we could hire a small excavator for the day but not too keen to dig up the back yard trying to find treasure! That's the issue. I need somewhere that we can rip shit'n bust.

If we've got a digger for a few hours I can almost guarantee a complete landscape change is in mind.

Big question though, why has nobody thought of this in NZ? Wouldn't this be the coolest thing ever to do for a staff xmas party - as long as there is a cup holder for our 'water'?

I'm not sure what your budget is, but....

I saw a place on telly once, just outside Las Vegas where you could play on big fuck off diggers and dozers. Not sure if they're still operating though

    osh. Probably.
And really, how many people have hunnits of thousands to spend on plant for n00bs to trash.

How much would you pay for this "experience"?

hell. You can come cut a couple of sites at my place. Need to re-level the caravan and dig a new whore hole. Err. Offal. Offal hole.

I'll only charge you 500 an hour.

Thought I'd better put out an update.

So I gave up in the end and started hunting for the toy digger - not the real thing. I settled for a small digger on Trade Me. Worst part is - being an awesome son I left it to the last second. Found a tractor online for $20, trouble is I found it the night prior to mums birthday dinner, no way could I expect payment and delivery on the same day so the only option was to pick it up. In Hamilton.

Yeah I could have gone in the car but Thursday was such a beautiful day that I threw the pack rack on the bike and shot on down. Beautiful ride apart from the road works around Huntly. I must add that the new highway detour around Ngaruawahia has a brand spanking new BP station with bloody brilliant staff and a Subway soon to open.

So here's what I settled with anyway, $20 for this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/toys-models...-977708541.htm

Bloody good fun for twenty bucks! Would definitely recommend to you all. It sucks at picking shit up but is a good laugh once you get the hang of it.
