yeah they do that to keep the costs down, same as the GS650. They should have continued the 650 scarva (think that's what it was called) great little road bike with belt drive. they tried to continue it with the F800R but its not the same or is it L plate ready for the new comers.
Yes, the Scarver, (Street Carver,) I had one for a few years... loved it! Only sold it when I moved here.
There were, apparently two versions: Lams and unrestricted. Still fetching good money, too. Might have to look for one when I get back.

More info. And yes, the Scarver I had was a great bike, although I don't miss the vibrations or the random (admittedly infrequent) stalling in traffic - usually when the lights changed.
