    Melbourne Cup winnings

Putting this here. I don't know whether to laugh at her or feel sorry for her.

There was another article just the other day warning folk not to do that with their boarding passes. If someone can read that bar code, it can be used for all sorts of identity fraud.

That should teach anyone not to have 2000 facebook "friends" they are never likely to meet.

    Just a bit naive.
A dentist would be pretty disappointed to have that set of teeth walk into their practice.

Yep. I delete anyone I wouldn't consider having a beer with when in town. No stolen winnings so I guess it's working?

If I remember rightly there was someone online (murica) who posted a pic of their credit card design, all details fully visible. Someone asked what the reverse side looked like, so a picture of that duly followed.

How would I actually use the bar code to withdraw funds? Theoretically speaking of course

It was the NATURALLY part that most amused me too, strangely that wouldn't be the first thing I thought of, getting the money in my hand however would be something of a priority......

Follow the instructions to scan your ticket barcode and see if you won anything.

If the machines at the airport can read your cellphone screen for your boarding pass barcode, I guess it makes sense that you could zoom in on someone's dumb selfie on your phone and scan the barcode of the ticket in the photo, or at least someone was obviously willing to give it a punt to find out.

From what I read, the betting machine/ATM reads the barcode off the slip of paper inserted.

Someone would have taken the picture, done some rotating, scaling and cleaning, before printing it.

    Not rocket science.
