Like how he was getting blown away at the Suzuka 8 hours? Oh that's right...

I doubt very much Stoner would even contemplate racing unless he knew he could cut it. Stop watches don't lie, and he'll be keeping an eye on his I bet.

Rest of the field will fall over, he'll finish last (fifth), and be lapped a couple times?

Good read about Stoner, HRC and Marquez
    https://motomatters.com/news/2015/11...nda_becom.html

Marquez felt threatened by Stoner's presence as a test rider, and criticized the input Stoner had given on the project. Marquez claimed he had to test everything Stoner had already tested, to check Stoner's feedback.

Like when he crashed? OK, OK, I know his throttle stuck.

He can read fine, it's your writing that's the problem. Unless you meant to contradict yourself.

Top 3 are the only real results that count in my mind, as that is on the podium and a fantastic result. So to me an ass kicking is 4th or lower

Hope he gets some decent seat time.
As a test rider he may actually have the advantage of more time in the saddle - while full time riders are more limited in the number of test days they can do.
Combined with the changes this year he could be a real threat if he wild cards a few rounds.
His ego won't have diminished any, and none of the front runners will want to be upstaged by him - so he could really put the wild back in wild-card
