Ever since I heard about this bike I've thought that the price needs to come in around $20K if it's going to become a big deal. Its predecessor, the FZ1, was a good bike, but just priced way too high over here to develop much popularity. Yamaha really seemed to have turned a corner when they released the MT-09 with such sharp pricing. I hope they can now follow through on that...

I hope it's not more in line with the Tuono. The T is really just an RSV with less fairing and bars raised a little. If Yamaha have done their job right, and it looks like they have, this thing will have a shorter tank, more upright position and be a veritable torque monster.

I think more and more manufacturers are cottoning on to the fact that a super naked shouldn't just be an undressed superbike. It needs to be commuter comfortable with grunt for Africa right from idle. While moto journalists might all expect them to be naked superbikes, I think the real market for these bikes is somewhat different.

    Due date.

Just found out that a mate of mine in the UK is picking his up very early June (So, a week or two?).
He believes it'll be one of the first to land there. So not sure what this means regarding due date in NZ? But can't be too far off now.
I reckon it looks pretty awesome, even though big nakeds aren't really my thing. I'm sure heaps of folk will be very happy with it.
Do us all a favour, by bringing yourself up to speed, before pulling onto the motorway.

From what I've seen I don't think it lacks in torques. De-tuned to 160hp to increase bottom end and mid range. I think putting an aftermarket pipe on one would increase tire wear considerably.

Don't think of out as de-tuned. I prefer to call it "re-tuned". Re-tuned for torque! Or rather "mid-range" or "bottom-end" torque.

My Boss just bought one. I will take it out at lunch time next week and "run it in".

Cross-plane engine - of course it sounds good.

Funny review - well done. Some interesting passing!

    Quotes worth repeating:

10/10 - the mad side of Japan.

Torque - I like torque (still 160 bhp)

Anyone can make a beautiful motorcycle making it unique is difficult .........

The last one reads: a ugly stick was severely whacked upon it in creation. However - wait until the Yamaha 'Yard Built' versions start appearing on the internet

If it is indeed a 10/10 or near the aftermarket will start supplying goodies to pretty her up.

I'd have to say regardless of personal opinion I have to hand it to Yammy for the bikes they have been releasing over the past few years - others have sat weathering out the global economy, Yamaha has stepped up and introduced bikes worth purchasing. Honda needs to wake up!

So rode it today. What an epic wee bike. Really impressed. Would make a great commuter for a full licence holder that doesnt want to risk his good bike in traffic. Even has a little shift light.

As above, really cool. Decent power in the lower rpm so you dont have to rev the nuts off it. Cumfy as well.
