I just wish they'd re-do the original, MT-01 but maybe using the 1900cc barrels from the stratoliner

Needed to drop some serious weight, but I like your thinking. 1900cc? maybe not - just hot-rod the smaller engine. I keep thinking of that 2000cc Kawasaki cruiser that did not sell very well - too big?

    Possibly.

I do wonder why one of the Japanese makers has not produced a 1.8-2.0 l inline 4. A tyre shredding, earth spinning engine. Be a piece of piss to produce - OK somewhat wider than existing engines but with modern engine design it should still be narrower than the 80's super 4's

Why build one? What not is the real question!

No wider than a boxer engine, or an in line 6. Oval pistons, slimmer again. Or v4... O hey V max. Back to Yamaha.

Having owned one, most of the weight is the friggin motor, it's bloody gigantic, air cooled etc. The frame was incredibly light diecast/forged ali, R1 cycle parts, titanium mufflers..
Taking into acount the MT 01 having a hot rodded Warrior motor. It was substantially up on the 'donor' about 30% increase, 95 bhp 110ft lbs... the strat has I think 90ft lbs and 100bhp... would make one hell of a launch out of corners on the projected MT 01 {1900} torque figures.

Oh the MT OS you pictured. There were aftermarket kits made {not yamaha} to turn an 01 into an OS.

Sadly yamaha shot their own foot with the 01, and now after it''s gone the MT 'family' has taken off.... but none of the new generation have that 'something' you either hated or loved in looks of the 01.

Saw an MT-10 in the shop yesterday. Had a sit on it. Very comfortable relaxed seating position, although the tank feels a little wider than I'd like. I guess it just adds to the muscular feel. Looks OK in the flesh. That grey yellow paint scheme won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I guess it will achieve its aim of being noticed. It does seem a bit fiddly though with lots of little bits of plastic hanging off it all over the place. Unlikely any demos for a while. Yamaha didn't even trust dealer with the key!

Yeah the looks in the flesh let it down. I didnt mind the colour now but it would date very quickly. Looks and finish wise the New Speed triple kills the MT10.

Field days demo on Yamaha stand.
Depends on what type of riding you are doing. I am finding the MT09 Tracer suites me & not tempted with the MT10.

WTF - it's not been ridden. Common Yamaha NZ you should have at least ripped up the tyres for the show.

Amazed at that, unless Im reading it wrong by that the honda has the best fueling. And the Suzuki cleans up the MT for torque. S1000r is still the Daddy.

Some wiggly lines on there! Look at the torque curves (the Honda has a curve the others ....) Still they power through the shit bits so fast who would notice. Bloody graph riding aye must make one better/worse .............
