Took the words out of my mouth... bloody hell. There's no way I'd buy a bike that looked like that.

Looks like they stuffed the new R1 motor in it. I wonder if they changed the cam timing or somthing to up the torque for the MT line?

Yeah. Apparently less HP but more bottom end torques. 160ish HP I read somewhere.

Yeah but neutered on a naked bike ain't bad. It's good, it makes them more useful. The upper limit of cruising on a naked isn't much over 130kph, so at that speed you want to be into the meat of the torque. I'm not talking about cruising to the shops, think several hours.

The magazines usually complain about the neutering but when Yamaha actually listened and made an "entire" naked. When BIKE tested it as part of a group test nobody wanted to ride the thing. The testers said the engine was too peaky. That wouldn't have mattered though, if it had a slick gearbox and a good clutch, but it didn't.

Generally the manufacturers seem to know what they are doing. Bad bikes are rare, but that FZ6 was one such.

I agree, a nekkid 1000cc sprot bike with wide bars, fatter mid range, less rev happy.... Whats not to like? Apart from the looks. So prolly similar HP to a Tuono but from Yamaha.

But will it sound as good as the Tuono?

Cross plane IL4 sounds a lot like a V4 so they'll be close. The choice of slip-on will probably make the difference.
