The "floppy" drives were actually stiffies... but everyone giggles at that. The actual floppies were earlier.

I'm actually delivering a stiffy drive to a client tonight, they need to review some disks after they told me to keep a PC with a drive...

    Look G, & notwithstanding your creepy/pervy over-familiarity/sexual self-disclosure.. a couple of points.. FYI,

1, 'Hard-ons' is the name of an good old school `70s punk band ( & Volteface was obviously never a punk rocker, even if he's always been a punk)..

2, Yeah, although Star Wars was ludicrous kiddy crap, that BDSM scene of the - then hot - scantity-clad Jewish princess giving da Hutt auto-erotic service was..
.. a stand-up sequence.. & I aint ashamed to note that when it was shown on the box in hi-def the other night, I recorded that bit.. of.. classic sci-fi..

I remember the original playing at the Cinerama in Queen St and being 1977 and being punk...or new wave...can't remember and all not going to see it.
You won't have been punk in Auckland in 1977 I wouldnt have thought. Well... maybe. You would have been one of a few. When did Zwines open and close? the definitive record of the era is of course AK79 but by then mostly the scene had changed. New wave (so called) was later. terrible haircuts and godawful drum sound from those octagonal fake drums.

I did see original Star Wars at the theatre. I liked it but since I was then (and still am) a massive Star Trek fan I was underwhelmed. I have seen every Star Trek movie except NEMESIS in its theatrical release. TL;DR: Star Trek > Star Wars.

I will go to this one though sometime in the new year. apparently it is OK but someone told me Dumbledore dies.

I had to line up with dad, my brother and my next door neighbor mate 2 Saturday mornings in a row to see the original at the Cinerama. The first time we lined up we were 2nd from next in line to miss out...
My mate Leonard Easthope at Maungawhau primary saw it 11 or 12 times for some reason.

Ummm, well I wasn't Disco or fecking Genisis.
I used to pass the Record Warehouse on my way to school and used to get Rip it Up mag when it was free. Punk was around but not much, Barry Jenkins used to play it on Hauraki, they played shit the rest of the time. Didn't really think much of AK 79 at the time as discovered Hendrix, Doors and so on by then....that led on to The Stranglers and the Clash.
The Screeming Mee Mees were in my year at school...webble Catholic schools We used to joke they had a 1000 copies of See Me Go under the bed.

I've fond memories of my first Stars wars experience. With a few mates we bunked off High School. Smoked some dope in a phone booth in Cathedral Square, thinking we were hidden from public eyes. What teenage idiots we were. Stepped out of the booth to realise, truly to our shock, that everyone could see us through the glass and the booth was full of smoke, half of it pouring out of the booth.

So from there we went to the movie everyone was talking about that we had paid little attention to. Something about a sci-fi fantasy other world cowboys and Indians thing- yeah right, sounded like a load of bollocks. UNTIL. Stoned as any stoned idiots could be we were blown away by the opening credits. Those words coming out of the bottom of the screen disappearing ever smaller into the endless universe. Wow! That alone blew our minds. Didn't really care what the movie was like after that awesome experience. The movie was just a bonus after those amazing opening credits.

That was with my best friend through high school and our twenties. He died of a brain tumour in 2001. 14 years already? Hard to believe.

I'll think of him when I go to watch this latest instalment.

I liked it, even got the play-station game I was only like 10 or something and haven't watched it for years which probably has some bearing on that, but other than Jar-Jar I can't really remember much I didn't like. Also with EJK on that song, he's one hell of a composer.

Anyone ever play that Jedi Knights II game? Bad ass.
