Just check youtube.. its old hat.. & if you really dig.. you'll find such stunts were staples of 'Barnstormer - Flying Circus' routines,
going back many decades - way back to nearly a century ago..
& Glenn Curtiss riding a V8 bike - was clocked at nearly 220 km/h.. 108 years ago.. on the beach..
Prob down the pub tonight bragging it was him during one beer and moaning about the Acc bike safety levies during the next before mounting up shouting "FTP" half pissed and speeding home......Not like the cops to post speeds reached as to avoid copy cat one ups.
I was actually referring to this post:
Nope.
Weight has nothing to do with the speed at which something falls.
As per someone else - its all about Wind resistance.
I'd do an approximate that a Harley would actually fall slower than a person (depending on how it fell, but I would guess it would end up semi on it's side in a sort of flat spin) - which I think would generate more drag than a human body.
Would actually be a fantastic experiment to do.
Well, duh..
Its been done, as I noted.. for a long time..
& the answer is obvious to anyone who watches X-games, aint it?
Likely, a big ol' H-D bagger would - if given a long enough fall to stabilize, go nose down..
..due to the nose fairing, & big-as bags at the back - which have been tested to be stable at speed, as on road..
What if it was Ex-AB skipper Richie McCaw?
Y'know, thrill seeking to keep up the buzz..
Would they let him off with a 'private discussion' - due to public sentiment/political imperative..
Or would they openly crucify him?
I returned the bike to its owner after a test ride around the block and assured him it was a nice bike but unfortunately didnt meet my needs as it wasnt fast enough .
Yes I had a few people at work today point that out to me. And look disturbed when I laughed.
Love the description - black bike and rider wearing black.....
I'm not so sure - I remember the Mythbusters episode about Bullets fall, tumbling through the air:
https://youtu.be/wVYmrp54B4M?t=1440
So assuming most of the weight on a HD would be nearer to the rear of the bike than the centre of the bike (anyone got any data on that?)
I think we would see a tumbling harley...
But as I said before - would love to see it done.
Physics; Thou art a cruel, heartless Bitch-of-a-Mistress
C'mon fella, sometimes I think you are deliberately acting out the hokey retard routine..
Of course - stability at speed - testing is done, with US liability laws, its a must do..
& I recall the motorcycle cops in NZ whinged, because an ex-Pom 'Speed Cop' WFO'd his unstable Honda 750/4 cop bike..
..against the advice of his colleagues, who knew better, & had an injurious high speed tank-slapper get-off..
You claim to punt a big ol' GSX-R 1300 'Bus', do you really imagine it wouldn't go nose down - if dropped from 30,000ft?
Well, you'd have to take of the tassels, obviously
False. Weight has nothing to do with the speed at which something accelerates initially. It has everything to do with terminal velocity, simply due to drag being a speed dependent reaction force to the weight force.
More importantly, if you put enough tassels on the rear of it, would it stabilise like an arrow?
"A shark on whiskey is mighty risky, but a shark on beer is a beer engineer" - Tad Ghostal
Look fella, if'n tassels were good'nuff for ol' rip-roarin'est fightin' man Daniel Boon & grizzly bear & Mex munchin' Davy Crockett..
But seriously, never mind the bloody tassels, what are H-D mini skulls & cow bells all about?
Mind you, the likes of Evel Knievel & Cal Rayborn hammered hi-po H-D's without any of that crap a' danglin'..
