I agree, a rider can spread the news many ways, and good on the riders that do!
What I'm talking about is will the average sponsor on the NZ scene, that gives away products, ever make that money back (and then some) due to the extra exposure gained? Very unlikely imo. Sponsors in NZ do it for the love and passion for the sport for sure. And good on them! On the whole sponsorship in NZ for commercial prosperity is a dead duck.
This is the first time I have ever talked about this on KB.
So you say you are different and then try to justify what you did in the next sentence.
Since you tried to justify it, you have left the door wide open for me to reply. You knew we were just a couple of mates doing it for the love and fun of it. So don't fucking try and make out it was anything to do with business. You were just trying to be the big hero and get your guy $$$, and trying to justify it as being "just business" just proves you are still a cunt underneath it all.
As mentioned earlier, sponsors do it for the love and passion in this country. That is why your "business offer" was politely declined.
Until the sport is actively promoted and advertised then sponsers will be only ones with a love of the sport.
If meetings and series were advertised and reported more in the media then the gate takings would increase and a larger following of the sport paying for advertising cost and a better return through more exposure for sponsors. Just saying
It is a club scene run by clubs, it is not treated as business, so will never grow. 20 600 bikes on the grid add up to how much? That is a business write there, but people just do not look at it that way sadly. I sent a letter to every single MNZ Road race licence holder years ago, and got fuk all replies from the pre paid envelope included, Nz Racers are basically a bunch a soft cock whingers, who are always looking for an excuse and some one else to blaim for there own failings, it has been that way since the day I started here, and not to mention the tall poppy syndrome, which was not so apparent untill the internet, some thing David Bowie said would be a killer way back when. We actually have some fukin awsome young talent here currently, and luckily for them and us, there families are in behind them, other wise they would also be whinging about lack of sponsorship and promotion.
Anyone in NZ motorcycling that receives ANY sort of sponsorship should think themselves bloody lucky. It is not like (for example) Colemans will be inundated with extra customers all wanting to buy a brand new GSXR on Monday that saw a Colemans sticker on a race bike on Sunday. Most if not all motorsport sponsors in NZ do it for love, fun, interest... and get buggar all back for their money/product/discounted items.
most nz racers are not "soft cock whingers" they are guys and girls that love racing motorcycles, they have no need or desire to go race the world and win, and a few that do, and they will find the way, i dont think you can make a path for them as such, as there is no defined path to the top, you have to take the oppurtunites you get, and win,
as for sponsoring motorsport in NZ, its an emotional decision, and can be very rewarding in that way when someone you support wins a major race, a NZ Championship or a world championship can be pretty dam awesome, but if you are looking at getting a ROI off it then you are pretty much dreaming, and that can be said for dam near every motorsport in NZ, no just bikes,
as for approaching someone elses sponsors, and trying to steal them, its a pretty low thing to do, but not that uncomman either, I knew someone that raced a NZ V8 and got sponsorship out of a pretty big NZ company that he spent alot with, part of the deal was that no signage was to go on the car, as all it did was create work for someone that was in the marketing dept dealing with poeple trying to get money,
changing the subject back to young guys VS old guys. If you raised the suggestion that older guys should step aside for young guns in any other sporting arena you would be laughed out of the room.
If the young guys want to win then put in the hard yards and effort it takes to get there and push to win.
To see a life newly created. To watch it grow and prosper. Isn't that the greatest gift a human being can be given?
