    Honda VTR1000 engine block

Hey guys, just after some advice on where to find a second hand motor?

as above I'm after an early (97-01) Honda VTR 1000 F block c/w pistons or a complete engine. Theres plenty on eBay in the states and UK but thought there must be some in this country!

Best I've found so far, full engine for $700 delivered (says includes import fee of $80 - no charge upon arrival in nz?)

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/401035545488

    seems pretty reasonable to me

$700 - I'm getting NZ $555 for the engine, $NZ 346 plus import charge. Thats $900 plus relevant import - GST will apply at 15%

Anyway a grand for a good engine sounds good to me. Can't see anywhere how many miles are on it? Have you asked?

    How did you kill yours?

From memory there were a few on TM recently that stay on for ages. Make them an offer and see what happens.

Also try Roger at Action Motorcycle wreckers. He is in Takapuna and doesnt charge stupid money.

Im also interested in what happened to your old motor? Or are you building a demon?

There is a guy in CHCH who wrecks them and others, but he always wants way to much. I find it cheaper to buy from Aussie or the UK.

He's waaay cheaper than Bikebusters plus you get a COMPLETE engine, carbs, coolers, key ecu etc, where BB is just a bare engine and still wants you to freight your old engine to him.

But failing that I agree OZ would be next place to try.

In Aussie and the UK the motors go for a couple of hundred. Seems to me if wreckers had reasonable prices they sell way more.

yeah my mistake my eBay was showing me AUD so works out just over 1k nz so still not too unreasonable in my eyes, as long as she's a good motor.

can't seem to bring up any on trade me? just full of torpedo7's valve shims...

as for my engine, one cylinder is .25 out of round, needs boring, therefore needs the crankcase splitting in order to get it bored, which in turn will likely mean new crank bearings, full gasket set, boring, new oversized pistons, rings etc etc, doesn't take long to get pretty expensive. So figured it may be easier and cheaper to replace the whole thing. Valves and heads are good which is why i only really need a block, but looks easier to get a complete motor.

long story short, seems that dust/dirt has got through the air box and somehow into the cylinders, hence the damage.

It's in an off road buggy I bought not so long ago from a guy in QT, probably my fault for not doing a compression test, although it seemed to get bad pretty quick so the test at the time could well have been fine. Still unsure how its managed to get in there as I still have a standard carb & airbox setup, just sucking through more dust than it would on the road, maybe the answer is just to change the filter pretty often.

Make sure the carb breathers still have the little foam air filters as it can get in that way.

A set of JP high comps could be nice........
