Lams Approved sports or sports tourer

After a LAMS approved and preferably lams compliant sports or sports tourer. 400 - 600cc as it will be used for commuting as well as having some fun on.

I would consider SV400, CB400SF, RF400 etc, or any of the newer restricted lams bikes that were in my price range. i would prefer Lower NI so i can check it out before buying.

have been scouring trademe but there's not much around at the mo! got up to about 4.5k.

    cheers

yeah i have. not that keen tbh, really after something that sits at the top end of the 150kw/t.

I know power isn't everything, however i have been riding illegally for years, but am doing it right this time. just wanna squeeze as much as i can out of the legislation

Fair enough. I can't really see you doing much better for your price range though. The ER-5 is already at ~135kW/T and something like a CB400 (definitely a better bike but not by all that much) of the same age is going to be about twice the price of what that ER is at currently.

I had this tidy CB400SF in Wellington on my watchlist that closed without selling in early December. It was offered at $4200 which I imagine it sold for but it wasn't by someone clicking the button on TradeMe. Could be worth a having a go contacting the seller.

If you're going to go that old I think you want pre 93 as I think that's when they started add all the emission doohickywhatsits. Could be wrong, been a while since I looked into any of that jazz but from memory that is one of the reasons why the pre 93 250s were/are sought after. That said if you don't need the top end you can gear things down a bit for the illusion of power XD

Yeah i had that on my watch list also. wasn't cashed up at the time though. Have contacted him via youtube and he's hanging on to it.

Cb400 is 149kw/t and RF is actually around 153. i know its not a lot, but it will count when I'm trying to keep up with my mate on his TL hahaha. I should also add that I do prefer IL4 engines, though i do like the SV. Not that fussed about cost provided its in budget, and the bike isn't overpriced. Other things I like about the CB and RF are twin disc front ends. ER5 stoppers are less than adequate i believe.

There's This http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...?id=1015821567 In rotorua, but I'm having difficulty getting hold of the seller. I also wonder if its a touch overpriced.

It probably wouldn't have been worth it in pre-LAMS days but you can't really blame the guy for asking that sort of money given the options at that end of the market for >250 learner bikes. If you got it for $4k I doubt you'd lose much come time to sell it when you get your full.

Or you could save some money and get an RF900 and some RF400 stickers.

There's an FZR400 on TradeMe in Fielding but you'd have to be pretty desperate to pay what he's asking for a 30 year old baby FZR. An unfucked one of those would be more fun than RF400 though, about 30kg lighter.
