Got to Welcome Shaun Harris to Wellington today, he is in the ABI facility at Kenepuru Hospital and the staff were spending time with him learning about his needs etc but were also keen to know about him. They have advertised visiting hours 10-1 &4-8, Fiona Kelsen will be talking to the staff to see when suitable times are too, so keep an eye for her update when she is able to speak to them etc. One thing the staff mentioned to me was to please make the visits short. I'm sure Shaun recognised me and shook my hand when I offered and tried to chat so I encouraged him to write things down, he went into his own world once, then back very quickly, but sometimes he may not be aware of someone or not. I told the staff that he used to race the Britten Motorcycle Company and he doodled the Britten logo while I talked. I reminded him that he gave me the fingers in his first ever race (he'd broken down and we were still going) his eyes sparkled, i've no idea whether it sunk in but I got a reaction. I mentioned Seth Devereux and he gave me that look, you know like the one we all have when we've stuck our finger through our toilet paper..., we know he likes ya Seth.
I talked Motorcycles, that's Shaun so don't be short of a tale or two of a good race, either his or yours. I'm sure any visit will not go amiss, and i'm also sure we don't all have to leap up this week and tick that one off, he'll be there for a while so continued support will be the thing people.

What impresses me (apart from Shaun's obvious determination) is the way some peoples personal views of the man, have changed. Even one or two user signatures have notably been changed.

I commentate at the Cemetery Circuit, and the Nationals. I was worried about Shauns comeback and that he didn't break himself in the process and when he got forth at wanganui told the world he had his Mojo back. we then went south and he was winning races. there are two commentators down south, we take turns each in post race interveiws, i was hoping that I got superlite cause Shaun was over the moon with what he'd done.
I think a lot of people had written him off, but gained new respect for him when he climbed back to the top of that ladder.

personally i've always enjoyed the pricks company, i was in his first race at hamilton, he broke down, I gave him the thumbs up when passing them parked up, he gave me the fingers so i made a point of catching up afterwards. He can be a tosser, i can't remember the last riders breifing he was at that he didn't ask something but it takes all types of people to make the world work and we need unpredictable gingas to be part of it.

I dunno if this directed at me, but I welcome you to point out where my personal view has changed in case it is. My signature got changed when it wasn't him reading that I wanted to fuck off. Pretty confident that bad taste, and a dislike of a person has a very distinct difference.

Shaun is not a good person, in my opinion. I base that mostly on what people I respect and trust have told me from personal dealings. Also on conversations I've had with him, about many things but most of those were the same things about the above.

That doesn't mean that he isn't a huge talent, and the racer in me has to respect that. I don't wish him ill health, or lasting detriment.

Lord fucken help us when he gets back on here though.
