    RIP David Bowie

A posting on the official David Bowie website said the rock star died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a "courageous 18 month battle with cancer".

Sky News and The Hollywood Reporter said Bowie's representatives confirmed the death.

A short time ago, his son, director Duncan Jones also confirmed the news in a tweet.

    Damn sad.

Got the news when my phone started beeping awhile ago. Heading off to the stereo now to celebrate the sounds of a generation and ponder the fickleness of life. He seemed ageless.

Came here to post this. A number of my heroes have died recently. Lou Reed, Lemmy, now Bowie. I have been a fan since I was 13. Christ, first album I loved was Aladdin Sane.

Cranking up the saddest song in the world, from one of the saddest albums.

By the way, I also made the trek to the record store last week (Friday 8th) to buy the new album "BLACK STAR"

Totally worthwhile. Not a rock and roll record. Produced by Visconti.

I may have to take a week off of work.

I thought elections were decided by angry posts on social media. - F5 Dave

Dies @ 69.. & was Mick Jagger there - when he popped his cork?

Will Davy Jones ( Bowie's actual name, funnily enough) get a burial at sea?

Or will he re-invent himself & go on tour with Rob Zombie?

He created a world record with his serious moonlight concert at western springs in 1983.

I was 17 & went up on my CB360 & stayed at Meadowcourt Motel in Papatoetoe with a few guys I'd gone to school with.

Was there too, great concert, wasn't it also the loudest at western springs? Apparently they could hear it on the north shore

My wife and I had just been discussing how old he looked in his new album promo TV advert. A couple of hours later we heard the news...

    A sad loss.
