An article here about a case from Canada but I suppose it could also affect anyone.
If you died tomorrow, would your family need to access your files etc, would you want them to?.

Got all our passwords written down old stylee on a small notebook and tucked away safely.

I manage my families files, media etc on servers I built and set up...

Even if I left passwords, they'd need someone else tech savvy

I am in the process of setting up those things that a lot of people don't worry about.

Like the recovery disks
like backups - varying success - its been a 15 year nightmare which I am solving slowly.
like getting people to be consistant - about their own passwords - so THEY can remember them (not me)

showing older folk how to use their computers (I am no expert but I get by) and how to do stuff by themselves.
I then get them to do it by themselves.... often a relevation

Show them how to do stuff like google map - simple for me

but most importantly getting them to write down or store somewhere so their loved ones can access the computer after they have gone or become unable to use it.
I get all the parties involved and make sure they all can access/use it.

last thing they need is being unable to access bank/credit/payment details etc and being unable to access the computer after the shit has hit the fan

Why wouldn't she just make her own account....? If everything terminates when he dies then (I assume it's subscription payment?) the charges will stop anyway.

1) if you have physical access to their pc theres a >90% chance you can access the files. The other 10% of the population encrypt their shit.

2) anything opened/operated in "your name" isnt yours. It belong to the crown. Ergo, they can get it, whether you're dead, alive, chinese or sunburned. Bank records will be released, if required, to an executor, if you're dead.

I don't have access to their PC normally.
Its more for the delay that partners suffer when the other half suddenly passes away (like MB accident). and the partner has no idea what the other half has set up.
One case I know of the male part has done all the finances for 60+ years and the wife has no idea of the state of things (they are OK) but now the male half has dementia, they now drift with all the accounts payed automatically but what happened in the future? While he remains alive he still has some control but it is fading.
Sure bank records and shit will be released...... Eventually.

A second family I know I am helping them to avoid this problem now they are both becoming computer literate slowly.

As long as they document stuff they can feel confident if anything happens, they have it covered.

These people have been living together for 50-60 years so usually the male does the finances and the female does the housework etc. they would be lost if there was a sudden loss of the other half, as I have seen in other relationships the second half follows the first within a few months

mental incompetence is also grounds for releasing named accounts. dementia, ie.

not always the case though, had a female friend who only got "their" driving licence at ~75 years old. a few years before the other half passed on. a few years down the line now and becoming her own entity...

I met a lady who had her license and still quite capable of driving at 89, probably better than me. Within a year she passed on. Saw her a few months before, so sad to see the deterioration and the proud manner she tried to hide it.

In your case good to see people are capable of learning at all ages
