What's the difference? A figurehead is a figurehead, the only difference is level of "power" and amount of bullshit that has to be spun... the methodology doesn't need to change. Anyhoo, I'm english by berth according to the berth certificate that is supposed to be me, so I'm not allowed to be prime minister (audible sigh of relief rings out across new zealand, heh). That and I'm an honourable chap that's gonna let people make their own minds up.

but basically it comes down to perception, if people believe you supply something they need and it's cheap - no worries. If they think your fleecing them.......

lol... You'd think so, but they still have exactly the same hurdle when addressing the issues of their constituents i.e. budget constraint. The thing is, the peeps I know that know the current mayor have him down as a nice and decent fulla. However the rates in the area are going up by 5%(ish) per year and 12% a couple of years ago. Essentially he can be a nice as he likes, but when it comes down to getting more $ for the council/business etc... to get done what needs to be done, this sees both mayor and pressy alike suffering the same fate and they both end up with the same result i.e. budget constrained expediency to make it look as though more is being provided for the more that's being put in. Fuckin shit jobs to have the, both of 'em, but hey...
