Cheers for the comment. yeah great bikes had a lot of fun on my first one many many moons ago until we hit a curb and ended up embedded in a fence. I look at it this way, managed to take one out of this world and now bringing another back from near death, Redemtion I guess.
Update time, stripped and tidied up the guages then spent ages straightening up the top fairing mount which was pretty out of shape so much so the instrument cluster and headlight wouldn't line up with their mounts all sorted now tho but still need painting.
Replaced the tube on the left clip on as had been bent and straightened by someone, can't beleve someone would ride it like that as was almost ready to snap where it was bent.
tidied up hand controls etc and fitted to bars.
Cleaned up main wiring loom and tested each wire with a multimeter, once happy had no broken wires i re wrapped and fitted it to the bike and plugged everything in. Chucked a battery in turned the key, powervalve servo whizzed away and lights etc came on. Was cool to see some life, need new flasher but that's about it.
Also rebuilt front brakes and bolted them on.
Going to hopefully sort tires this week and maybe start on the engine over the Easter break.
    Until next time, cheers

    Looking good.
Ahh yes that fairing bracket looks like the F2 one. I had the bottom fairings off one day and had a moment of sustained traction loss (front wheel only lost contact with the ground through most of 2nd gear. Several times on a windy uphill backroad.)
Anyhoo it landed and the top fairing took a turn to the left. Eek!.

Cracked almost through. Broke it off unplugged and rode home sheepishly with it on my lap.
Remember it like it was yesterday not the early 90s. So not that long ago. . .

Got braced after that. Two strips on either side of the two tubes near the frame. Give it a good eyeball. . And always refit the lowers.
Don't you look at my accountant.

Ouch not good when you have to ride home with parts from the bike on your lap.

Well sorted tires, went for Battlax BT45's in standard factory size and they look great on the rims with all the little hairy bits still on them.
Fitted the front and rear brakes, took a bit of bleeding but finally came up good and no leaks that I can find so cool another job off the list.
Started the engine rebuild, was a bit nervous stripping the case down but all seems fine inside so a good clean paint and some new bearings and seals in the transmission then fitted the new crank and seals. Crank spun nice and free and gears seem to select fine so on went the Yamabond bolted the cases back together and success every thing still spins fine with now binding so that was a relief.
Went to order piston kits today but they only had 4th OS in stock and as I want 2nd will have to wait a couple of weeks for them to arrive bugger it.
May have found a good set of chambers to, mine have pleanty of gravel rash and old shoddy repairs so are pretty ugly.
    That's it for now.
    Cheers

Ok here we go, been a bit busy with a small job, I now have a 20ft container sitting on front lawn that I'm converting into a batch for the mother in law , she is going to put it on a bit of property she has up in the sticks. God forbid she moves in it here

Back the the bike, had a email from the piston supplier and not good news they have to wait for TKRJ to do another run of Pistons to get 2nd OS and could be 6 or more months away. I searched high and low even other countries but no luck so ended up going 1mm over (4th OS) was and am still a litte worried about it but have been told 2mm is doable as long as power valve bushes are good.
Dropped Pistons and barrels to be bored then started chasing up other bits I have been on the hunt for. It was like xmas day last Thursday brand new tail light arrived along with center stand, good fork tube, chambers and a call to say barrels are ready
Fitted tail light, stand the set about getting ready to fit top end, went to chamfer the ports and found the borer had already been there done that so cool, gapped the rings then fitted the Pistons to the rods with new small end bearings.
Gave the barrels a good wash and painted, left them for 24 hours to let paint harden then slid barrels on and bolted head down assembled all the other bits and finally the engine went back in where it belongs, attached most of the bits and peices just need the fit a couple of hoses fill with oil, bleed the 2 stroke pump etc and repair a couple small marks in the chambers and she's ready to fire.
I will hopefully get to the chambers this week but between work and the container could be pushing it, really want to hear her run so that's some big motorvation to find time I guess.
    That's it for now
    Cheers

Cool its getting close. I make a shield that sits in between the two exhaust studs to shield that area from road crud. Probably not so important unless a daily all weathers runner.

Good call there was a fair bit of crud stuck up in there, I like the idea so may do that and to the TZR as well as has a similar setup, all tho she like the TZR will be staying in the garage if it looks like rain it's the poor old Intruder that gets to go out in all weather.
Yep getting close can't wait to fire her up but not rushing it, once the chambers are done and new chain arrives it will be drop in the fluids and then ring ding ding time

I'm back, no she's not turning into another unfinished project just been busy converting a container into a batch for the mother in law and doing other odd jobs around the house, have to earn those brownie points.
As said in last post she lives, I've been tidying up a few little things on the frame etc so now ready to start on the cosmetics which I will make a start on this weekend.
I've done the first ride all be it up and down the street and seems good, no misses, stuttering or strange noises, very smooth compared to the TZR and seems very willing to rev but haven't taken over 8k revs yet as needs running in.
Had a text from someone I know saying he had just pick up a 84 RZ250RR, been of the road since 93ish engine is out of frame but all pretty much there. It's an import as has slight differences to my NZ new RZ. Was told they were imported when only about a year old and my have been raced over there from new but not sure. Anyway long story short I now own her.
A mate is picking it up next weekend from Auck so can't wait to get started on that restoration.
Cool my Yammy 2 smoke collection is growing.
Attach a pic of were my RZ is at now and some of my new baby.

    Cool and cool.
Can tell you the 250R ignition isn't restricted. I used one on my 350 after dyno comparison with original.

Yeah sort of figured that, as far as I can tell the 51L is the pick of the 250's, the barrels have an extra port that runs from the inlet to the outside transfer ports that none of the outer RZ's got and the CDI is marked 51L as well.
The RZ I have comeing has 51L barrels but not sure what CDI it runs, it also has different carbs that linked with a throttle shaft and push pull cable set up.

Ahh ok yep I have read something like that but wasn't sure exactly what they meant. My 85 is going back the factory spec so my have a play with the new one, porting carbs chambers etc. Any good sources for chambers here in NZ?
