    Classic Buckets

    Hey All!!

I've managed to acquire a late 70's or early 80's Honda CB125 Bucket racer, but after doing some reading into the classes I face the question, does anyone still ride older 4 stroke bikes in the Bucket classes? Im not wanting to be competitive, just getting out and having fun. The engines had a fair chunk of work done and seems to get off its arse pretty quickly (not compared to a new 2-stroke mind you) or am I barking up the wrong tree with such a old bike?

If you don't mind not being competitive and just want a laugh then get some nylons and some decent tyres and get out there! Why not.
I know at the small kart tracks we run up here that even a few riding FXRs would be beaten by a decent rider on a CB125

I assume you will be riding at Ruapuna so you will certainly learn to not slow down for the corners, should be great fun keeping it nailed every where for as long as possible .....

Here in Wellington we had a CB125 that someone had worked up a bit. I rode it one day and was very impressed. Great fun. Would be better with 17s but still should be a lot of fun.

The motor has had a fair bit of work I think, Its a XL125 so its 6 speed, Ive had a few cheeky blats around the block on it and it seems to get up and go, Also got given a few spare sprockets for it. As long as there are other "Slower bikes" for me to follow for a while, or anyone in CHCH that wants to come out to a friday track day and run me through the basics as I've never really ridden hard on a sealed surface. But I got it for a steal and thought that it'd be alot of fairly cheap fun to go out and have a blast. Just got to get some leathers and an approved helmet and join a club and try get a license and get out there.

As already stated, a lot of it is down to the rider, but on a big track such as Ruapuna horsepower plays a significant part.

With good rubber you'll have an absolute blast battling it out with the stock FXRs

Under the new rules at Ruapuna you now need to have a race license to participate in the Friday sessions. There are no exceptions, no day licenses.
You can go to an MCI training session which is run on a Friday before a weekend racemeeting, its free but comes with a few conditions, contact Brent Cotton at MCI to find out
My neighbours diary says I have boundary issues

You need to join a club MCI CAMs or Bears , doesnt matter which one $30 or $40
You can buy a license $100 for a club one, $200 for a competition one, cant do streetraces or GP on a club license

Day License is $30 if you get 2 of these you can get a credit on a clubor competition one

if you have a club license then you can upgrade it for one event for $50 for Greymouth street race or methven mountain thunder but not both

You cant do Fridays on a day license, you need a club or competition one
