Cleaned the nuts and bolts, how to prevent re-rusting?

There's too many of the little bastards to individually zinc plate, and the long term plan is to replace them with spanking new blackened bolts.

I only need something to prevent flash rust once I take them out of the vinegar and to prevent re-rusting for the next 6-12 months.

Is a fish oil bath sufficient? Or spray with clear coat? Or CRC Zinc it? Or any other rust prevention coating available locally? Or cast black magic on the lot?

CRC bright zinc seems to have worked on the bits I've sprayed it on, better than zinc it which really needs some sort of top coat over it to stop the rust coming back.

I've always really liked stainless fasteners myself..

Try battery terminal spray, different manufacturers make it in different colours, blue or yellowish is what I've used. Sounds strange but it works.

I don't like it when stainless fasteners permanently attach themselves to aluminium bits, if it's into ferrous things then yes.

Sorry? I've just had a bike's worth of bike bolts and all the spokes axles etc done for like $50. They do them in a basket. Can get deembritled if high tension like the spokes. Wire wheeled every bolt first which took some while but got a new result.
