That was the same line the British used in WW2 with Rommel. An average general with a few panzers built up to be " The Desert Fox" then whupped by Montgomery who was never the most imaginative general just good at logistics and planning. By beating him looked like the best General ever.

What sort of wine leads you to thinking there were 3 planes over Washington....Yokel Red, a cheeky young red with little substance, best have now as won't keep.

Yes your right, its now a state. I wonder who owns all the business there.
Japan was probably " lucky" not to become a state.

The US likes a bit of Empire building, much like the British before them.
British had the advantage of no News Media for what they got up to.

I can see a comparisom here being drawn with New Zealand

BUT New Zealand is quite different. The fact is that, they weren't forced in to accepting vats of Whisky, in exchange for vast quanitities of land. AND I am sure they would have signed the treaty anyway, whether they were drunk out of their skulls or not

I doubt it mate. I've been there a few times and I have never heard any such talk, rumors or whispers. Actually most of the locals I have met are generally pretty happy with their lot.
