Shit oh dear! Things at the BBC have changed. I used to listen on shortwave back in the day but now we can get current shows in Youtube. They used to have programmes in "special English" which was a reduced vocabulary version of English to suit students in Africa or Asia - or perhaps Donald Trump. Now there seems to be quite a lot of swearing?

Ah....the days when you got paid in cash and when it was gone you stopped spending, bet the banks never want to see that again.

On that note, probably like Big Tobacco and will move on to other places to rape and pillage. When I was in India a few years back it was all cash, now they have forced people to direct debit wages and have bank accounts ....kaching.

I work for a Multi National and the 'growth' area is China/India/SEA, whilst AU and NZ are now becoming too expensive for the " business model" to leverage synergy and all that buzz work BS.

I read the other day that Bank Deposits are no longer Govt Guaranteed?.....eek, might have to buy some more rusty VW Kombis and pre unit Triumph Projects, but even the demograph that thinks they are worth good money are moving on to retirement.

What to do

I watched a doco on a couple who bought a cheap lifestyle block in Hungary and a year of subsistence farming....looks to be hard work.

Hypothetically speaking, if one were to sell for example a motorcycle, one would be wise to keep a few thousand dollars stashed somewhere on one's property for the inevitable ATM failures, and the unlikely but still possible, bank runs with either restrictions on withdrawals, or a Cyprus / Greek- type 'haircut' (referred to at the linked article) where the government confiscates most of one's balance but still requires one to pay off the mortgage.

Storing a few weeks of palatable food and clean water, and other basic (hygiene and power) essentials i.e. in order of magnitude more than the three days recommended by the council and Civil Defence would seem prudent .
