Trump was the standard bearer for the birther movement and it raised his profile from that of a local New York conman to a national political figure.

One thing puzzled me: if it was so important that Obama was born in the USA why was it not so serious when it became known that Ted Cruz was born in Canada? And yes, I know that Trump said Cruz should test his eleigibilty in court. Trump was in that respect at least consistent.
