Are you sure that they were real "war criminals" ? It's not like the
Pentagon to be opposing pardon of "war criminals". Especially when
the people involved are members of the "home team".
But you did raise an interesting point: Presidential Pardons.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o..._United_States
Makes interesting reading. Especially in light of your comment about
Don granting pardons to three US military personnel:
https://edition.cnn.com/2019/11/15/p...nes/index.html
But if Don keeps this pace up, he'll soon eclipse Bill Clinton.
Ukraine
On a separate note, Don's current spot of bother re the Ukraine puzzles me.
I can still recall the 1981 Iran Contra saga, where Ronny Reagan's team sold
some arms to Iran (something to do with release of US hostages), and then
proceeded to use the proceeds from the arms sale to supply the Contras
(fighting the Nicaraguan government). You can read about it here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran%E...3Contra_affair
It seems like the current Ukrainian scandal is just another one of those
"weapons-for-weapons" scandals, though in Don's case, one "weapon" is
simply the supply of information on his likely Democrat rival, Joe Biden.
The interesting part about the Iran Contra affair is that it was facilitated
by Marc Rich, who were pardoned in 2001 by Bill Clinton - after a suitable
sized donation to the Democrats and the Clinton Foundation (listed in the
first link above).
You'd have thought that would have set some sort of legal precedent, and
that Don could claim immunity from impeachment (on that point, anyway).
It's also a little rich (sorry, not pun intended) in irony, in that during the
Obama reign, Biden was really keen to send weapons (Javelins) to Ukraine
in order to wind up the Russians. But Obama resisted that request, despite
Biden's objections.
And what does Don do ? He releases some money for the purchase and supply
of Javelins to Ukraine (just as the Democrats had wanted) - and now, what
thanks does he get ? Talk about ungrateful.
The other point which made me smile was announcement of the appointment
of the new Ambassador to Ukraine (William Taylor, Jnr).
It seems (reading his bio) that after William left the US State Department, he
went to work for the US Peace Institute. An oxymoron, if ever there was one.
And once having joined, he then actively campaigned for a more robust policy
towards Russia in Ukraine.
Apparently, Taylor was all for preserving "rules based order" in Ukraine. Though
I couldn't quite work out "whose rules and whose orders".
But Don, I'd be a little bit worried about this week's coup (in Bolivia).
I know that the CIA made a mess of the Ukrainian one back in 2014, and the
Venezuelan one was an absolute shambles, but they might have gotten their
game back together in more recent months.
It might be time to consider "early retirement" and "spending more time with
the family" (or on the golf course).
But, should you decide to remain - and the other crowd do actually decide
(and manage) to impeach you - then offer you a face saving pardon after
the fact, I'd just make damn sure to get a receipt for any donation made.
It's bound to be tax deductible.
A couple of points, the IRAN CONTRA deal to supply iran happened before any hostages were taken, so the potential excuse that it was anything to do with hostages is simply untrue.
Also trying to compare What trump has done is ludicrous.
He was blackmailing an alley to start an investigation to advance him politically.
Aside from the obvious implications of what he did he was using public money to fund a political campaign.
I'll have to disagree with you.
Quote from "Iran Hostage Crisis" Wiki
The Iran hostage crisis negotiations were negotiations in 1980
and 1981 between the United States Government and the Iranian
Government to end the Iranian hostage crisis. The 52 American
hostages, seized from the US Embassy in Tehran in November
1979, were finally released on 20 January 1981.
Part of the US hostage crisis resolution reached involved an
(unauthorised) supply of weapons to Iran. Then involved in a
war with Iraq (1980-1988), a war in which the US supplied
weapons to both Iran and Iraq.
This was followed by the Boland Amendment in 1982.
Quote from "Why Was the Boland Amendment passed"
The House of Representatives passed the Defense Appropriations
Act 411–0 on December 8, 1982 and it was signed by President
Ronald Reagan on December 21, 1982.
The amendment outlawed U.S. assistance to the Contras for the
purpose of overthrowing the Nicaraguan government, while allowing
assistance for other purposes.

You can disgree as much and as often as you like it will not change the facts the major problem with what you are saying is that's not the hostages the contra deal was about, they were hostages from Lebanon
not Iran. you are thinking iranian hostages means the iranian embassy hostages it does not.
https://www.nytimes.com/1991/12/08/w...rael-sell.html
The official justification for the arms shipments was that they were part of an operation to free seven American hostages being held in Lebanon by Hezbollah, a paramilitary group with Iranian ties connected to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The plan was for Israel to ship weapons to Iran, for the United States to resupply Israel, and for Israel to pay the United States. The Iranian recipients promised to do everything in their power to achieve the release of the hostages. However, as documented by a congressional investigation, the first Reagan-sponsored secret arms sales to Iran began in 1981 before any of the American hostages had been taken in Lebanon. This fact ruled out the "arms for hostages" explanation by which the Reagan administration sought to excuse its behavior
For those that don't know - one of the few News 'sources' I trust is Tim Pool - He is a Life-long Left-wing proponent, makes no bones about that fact that his political compass is Left, yet he consistently delivers some of the most fair and even-handed coverage of events.
One of his latest videos is rather interesting in regards to the Impeachment saga. It seems that one of the Democrat key witnesses may have been a little economical with the Truth, whilst under Oath.
He's been very critical of Trump over the years, but he's also been very critical of the far-left as well - hence why I like him.

She's just another pro Hillary shill that is still butthurt Trump won the election in 2016.
"Marie Yovanovich didn't care when the Bidens made millions from Ukraine. She only cared when Trump started asking about it."
This seems to be real.....
Rep lets out the biggest fart on a live stream of all time!!!
