Hey,
Is it normal for a gear shifter to be able to be lifted with the toe backwards so far that it flicks backwards,
i.e when you click up with your toe, if i was to physically pull the lever with my hand it will not stop and flick backwards on itself, so its facing backwards at 2 o clock position.

Is the bolt that holds the gear shift linkage to the shift shaft tight?

Lol probably should have included it was bent in this post. I wanted to separate posts as I wasn't getting the answer for it in the other one. But if it is agreed it only does it because it's bent then I'm satisfied.

With the info provided it is the most likely cause. Which isn't to say nothing could be damaged internally as well though. Check operation more closely to confirm, or enlist help (irl) if you are not that mechanically inclined.

Yea I will I'm visiting the bike tomorrow so trying to build up some knowledge of what to look for in it.

Straighten the rod and it won't be able to do it.
(Having said that, if the rod isn't returned back to perfectly straight it won't be as strong as it was before being bent and is liable to still flex somewhat).
