    Auckland rider groups

    Hey all!

I know there are clubs/ groups out there that do weekly runs (NASS/SASS being a couple) but i'm wondering if there are other groups also. of just a bunch of you lot just going out for nice rides etc.

Now that im back on 2 wheels (semi. thumb is still a bit tender, but cast is off) I just want to meet as many riders as possible, hear stories, learn from their experiences etc etc etc.
Though I suppose it's a little late to put something like this out given it wont be too long till the weather makes a turn for the worst.

    Thanks!!!

Riverhead/Coatesville used to be good until they posted an 80 kph speed limit through there some years ago. In saying that, there are other road in that area that a widely used (for good reason) but also they can be regularly policed.

You probably wont find too many organised group rides on here nowadays. (I use the word organised loosely)
Best advice is to organise your own rides with 2-3 mates, that's a good size for a group ride. Get to know the roads at your pace with no pressure and soon enough, you'll find that in doing it that way, you will have way more fun.
Riding with larger groups of people you don't know can conjure up all sorts unpleasantness, and after one or two, you'll end wanting to do your own shit anyway.

Ouch! that was a little uncalled for wasn't it??
I mean Maha's not the best ride leader in the world but he's always got me there and back without drama and most times with a lot of fun and laughter along the way. I'd ride as hard as I could the other way if i knew that IT was going to be anywhere near a ride I was involved in.

Correct in one aspect, I do have directional difficulties at times, but I/We get see more that way.
I can't link the 60+ rides I have put together over the years, it would use up too much band width.

Never really lead too many of them if I were to be honest, not quick enough for some on the rides. But all were without incident. Even got a Police escort on one and a Police Riders brief on another.

Some years ago when I lived up north, I attended several group rides through this website I think? A mate back then was a member and I went along for something to do. Not a big fan of group rides but the one or two I did go on, you could tell a bit of thought had gone into it, which always helps. One of them left Muriwai beach and ended up at a Mangawhai pub.

I also attended that Christchurch Earthquake ride, don't really catch me doing charity rides/poker runs etc, but that was something different and very well put together.

You definitely have Maha to thank for the earthquake ride, probably the Mangawhai one too.
