When did you start training for this Iron Man?
I guess it depends how you define "start'.
Decision was made January this year once my swim distance/time was in the right bracket. But swim training started middle of last year.
Its not so much training for the IM more a series of apparently unrelated exersize. Swim.run and bike ride. Getting them individually up to scratch to even be able to cover the distance. Missed a stroke n stride last week which would have been good for transition.

8h 7m, which was a new course record. First female was just under 9h.

Also consider half Ironman events before going for the full.

Yup. 5 IM finishes, probably 20 half IM, and perhaps 10 sprint and Oly distances. Last IM was 2013, then got interested in trail running. However, tore ankle ligaments and had surgery last year to fix it so can't run off road for a while. Hence will be in Taupo 2017 as part f the re-hab.

Its all about the bike. The swim and run worry first timers most, but the reality is that the bike leg is the key. Thankfullly my 'average' swimming is offest by the bike leg.

If I had brains then I wouldn't have a hobby that involves wearing rubber with 1500 people at dawn and parading in lycra for 12 hours.

However, feel free to drop me a message and I'll do my best to talk you out of it...

Already organised entry to Auckland Harbour swim 2.8km
Looks like the Motorcycle engine I'll be using will be a 52 year old shitter.
