CR80 bung or not so bung.

All right my mate is thinking about bying this 1989 CR80.The bike goes however the throttle cable is broken and it bogs inb any gear over 1st.Is it just the piston and rings or do other demons await in the beast.....
He is limited to $300 for a bike including repairs to get it going,
    the bikes gonna cost $50.
Does any one know of a cheap bike under $300?

Strip and rebuild, you can do this without spending a cent - but you'll need at least rings, maybe piston, crank seals and gaskets....and anything else you come across.Do it cheap like me - spray cans, salvaged parts....you don't need big bucks, but you need care and attention to detail, and bucket loads of patience to put to rights 16 years of abuse.

if you decide you dont want it, give me a buzz and ill take it

what motu said is probably your best bet and being a 2 stroke there is no messy timing to work with so its not a complicated procedure

Hmmm.Should he buy it knowing hes not gonna let me even touch it.
Also his dad found changing the pistons and rings on his RGV-T250 stressful.l
Because he droped both circlips in the crank case.
yep he is NOT mechanicly minded.

Done a piston & ring on nephew's bike easy as . You could take the head of & have a look & messure only cost a base gasket . Could be just a Clogged air filter
