Fuck me this site has taken a sad dive.

Chill, not everyone who rides follows racing.

Truth be told I had to think - hmmm who? I know that name somehow ........

Yeah - bloody fine effort and nice to see it awarded but just like half the people getting awards the response will be the same by many - who?

Which in itself is not a bad thin - just think how many non riders have googled Bruce this weekend.

Has Aaron Slight been awarded anything in NZ? Followed him for years with his very well respected international career.

Yeah good on him, and I wish I had 1/10th of his skill and balls, but like you say just cos we ride bikes don't mean we follow racing. Its like saying everyone who drives a car watches Bathurst.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

    On ya Bruce!

Well overdue... 10 IOM wins and barely a mention in the coverage here... staggering achievement and he's barely known.

It's weird really, TVNZ's monopoly on sports coverage is long gone, so why are we still stuck with blanket coverage of rugby rugby rugby rugby rugby rugby netball golf america's cup rugby rugby rugby netball olympics maybe and perhaps just a spot of motorsport and then it's back to rugby rugby rugby?

Anyone on the forum got some firsthand experience working in broadcasting scheduling? Keen to know why Bruce's home country hasn't been following him along the way.

Probably lack of interest from advertisers. TV is after all about the dollar bills, not the entertainment. The amount of absolute rubbish on there is testament to that fact.

Sports commentators are rare in this country, almost non-existent. We have rugby, cricket, or netball commentators. When NZ first became involved in the Americas Cup I heard one of these guys boasting he knew nothing about yacht racing. At that time I'd already got a book out of the library so as to have an idea of the rules and a basic understanding of what was happening. Sadly these people are not very professional.

At the risk of upsetting Pete by mentioning another rider; Barry Briggs won Sportsman of The Year in Britain but not here.

I was surprised and delighted to see Bruce at Govt House on the news. I do note from the photo though that even Bruce knows not to drink Pete's coffee.

Doesn't upset me in the slightest. People take every single post as if I'm being serious, but those that actually know me, know it's pretty rare for me to be anything of the sort. Always way too hard to convey via a cunting screen and a keyboard. And it wasn't my coffee he was afraid of mate. It's the beer fridge! Bruce had a very messy night whilst on the Steinies with us many moons ago!
