Business leaders were less than charmed as they emerged from a meeting with the Greens.
The Greens hosted about 40 business leaders in an effort to allay fears they are extremists, as they position themselves as a potential coalition partner for Labour.
Auckland Chamber of Commerce chief executive, Michael Barnett, called it a wasted opportunity.
Business Roundtable executive director, Roger Kerr, suggested some Greens' policies are outdated and economically unsound.
Mr Kerr said it was depressing to hear arguments similar to 25 years ago to do with trade and protection.
The Green Party says the meeting was worthwhile even if it did not win hearts and minds.
Greens' co-leader, Rod Donald, says the Greens listened to the business leaders' concerns about the party's policies.
He says those concerns include the Greens' policies on raising the minimum wage and free trade.
Mr Donald says it was a positive meeting because it has started a dialogue with the business community.
