Am I right in assuming that the Ohlins rear shocks on the XJR are a cheaper version with only preload adjustment?
There is one for sale at the moment where the owner has changed the stock shocks with those off a GSX1400.

Last I heard Yamaha had a decent share in Ohlins (30% springs to mind). The first ones were very budget - no idea about the current ones.
In 1987 Yamaha purchased 75% of Öhlins Racing AB stocks from Kenth Öhlin
It was owned by Yamaha, but ran as a separate entity.
Much like Honda relationship with Showa and Keihin.
In 2007 Kenth Öhlin reclaimed a 95% share of the company.

Funny enough I always thought Yamaha owned Brembo as well but it doesn't appear to be te case
I never knew Brembo owned AP racing (ex Lockheed) though.

Kinky is using a feather. Perverted is using the whole chicken
I believe the XJR ohlins shocks are an exercise in sticker engineering and are of very average quality. Improveable however. Just add money and Dr Taylor.
Sticker Engineering - I like that phrase.
Somewhere in my garage I have some genuine Ohlins stickers from my old Hornet - I should sell them - add and instantly improve :-)
Hmm try this place and compare the two.

Honda and Kawasaki have similar rears (twins) you can swap around.
XJ - check out some of the Yahama Yard Built XJ bikes - some bloody nice ones.
I think it is fantastic that Yamy are supporting this type of contest - yeah yeah it started back in the day with HD but really everyone has seen custom Harleys.

What are the shocks on this?

I'm always suspicious of listings that only show pics from one side. Especially so when there are also none from the front.
That suspicion deepens when there are aftermarket suspension bits not listed in the auction. If it were an improvement it would surely be listed?
