New chain for SuperDuke - EK, DID or RK distributor for NZ?

Hi all,

I need to replace sprockets and chain on my 05 SuperDuke and can't seem to find anywhere in NZ to buy a decent chain?
Northern Accessories don't even seem to have high strength 525 chains on their site! Is Motozone the distributor for RK chains? I really don't want to buy the chain from Ebay because they are heavy and shipping costs are crazy.
Can anyone recommend a company to deal with? Preferably who carry stock of high end chains?

From my experience, Motozone seems to be an e-commerce business that operate on a drop-shipment model. I've bought from them before and the order was fulfilled direct from several importers in different courier parcels.

Don't let this post put you off, mind. The items I ordered were competitively priced and arrived quicker than most shops would get be able to get stuff in and call you to come & pick up.

You'll probably find most importers like Northern won't show a full suite of parts online as they're not retail-focused but wholesalers.

Aw common mate. Go to your favorite bike shop (KTM dealer?) and see what they can supply.

My nearest KTM shop wouldn't know what customer service was if it smacked them in the face. I've tried them on more than one occasion and it is a complete waste of time.

Just replaced the chain on my 1290. Replacement is a JT Z1R 525 chain which has the same tensile strength/dimensions as the D.I.D ZVMX. Cost $US70 from Amazon, free shipping to YouShop and was $NZ41 for shipping from YouShop to NZ. So approximately $NZ 140 all up.

Incidentally the new chain is 2mm wider than stock.

Thanks for your reply, good to hear from someone who has purchased from Motozone and happy with the products / service.

So far I've found that most places have loads of different options for 520 chains but very few for 525. Have the bike manufactures changed the standard in recent years?

Have you tried Boyd's in Hamilton? I'm yet to buy parts from them myself but they have their clothing section well & truly sorted. Better than anything I found in Auckland anyway.

When I asked a similar question recently Shaun Harris put me on to http://www.eurobike.co.nz. they sorted me out with a good chain and sprocket set and organised a discount via my nearest retailer.

Top end chains seem to be $$$ in NZ, if you can find them - well over $300. Motomummy in the US do international flat rate shipping for US $30 and have a good selection of premium chains at reasonable prices, as well as chain and sprocket kits. Amazon is worth a look, I was lucky last year and found a DID x-ring for US $80.

Definitely try Boyds though. Good customer service and prices.

Motomummy's flat rate shipping doesn't include some heavy things like sprocket/chain kits. Worth emailing them first to check and even with the shipping cost they're good value. I have a -1/+2 520 kit from them waiting to go on the bike.

They sent me a chain at the $30 flat rate a couple of years ago.
