I heard it as his money is going into a maori trust.
I fear for his future, given the number of times I've seen in the news of money going into maori trusts and seemingly disappearing into thin air, and nobody ever seems to know where it all went.
Hopefully there is someone looking after his interests, to keep at bay the ones looking after their own....

Insisting to Police that you were involved in a rape and murder is on another level to pinching milk off the neighbors doorstep. If he had any involvement or knowledge of the crime 20 years seems about right, 20 years for a prolific car thief who wants to join a gang isn't out of the realms of reality either.
I love the smell of twin V16's in the morning..
One could almost think that his confession (of sorts) might have been related to the fact he was a gang prospect, and the police were quite happy to accept it to get the case off the books.
But no, that would never happen with the honest justice system we have in good old NZ

fucken jews
It's a pittance for the time spent in jail and what he has lost...
Govt probably spent close to that amount in legal fees convicting and then defending the conviction.
However the state does pretty poorly when it comes to compensating for fark ups and accidents.
The family of the innocent teen who was accidentally shot and killed by police on NW motorway only got $200,000+
No amount of money for either can go far enough or be enough. They should look at wrap around services (housing, training, free counselling for life) more than just $ compensation.
