You kidding... Free laundry and clothings too? Awesome! Steve Jobs also had one style of clothing anyways.
You realise that you don't get back the clothes you handed in .. you get what comes out of the bulk wash ... used underwear and all ..

Yes ... what a black place they live in if jail is better than the outside world ...

But that's also a worry - how do you reform them? Jail will not do it ... nor even count as a punishment ...

What a sad indictment on our society when some members think jail is their best option ..

It will be interesting to see what he does from here out!

    Meanwhile back in the jungle:

Good law abiding kids get student loans (debt) struggle to make their way pay for their own training lodgings and food transport etc.

Criminals get free lodgings clothing and food get free trade career training work experience breaks and a job at the end of it.

All sounds balanced to me - yeah right.
What may or may not have happened to Mr Pora had he not been wrongfully imprisoned is speculative and immaterial. Teina Pora's reputation has suffered enough without him being tried by the ever-unreliable court of public opinion.

What he does in the rest of his life, if it is law-abiding, should be no interest of anybody's other than that of Mr Pora, his family and friends.

What happens to other prisoners while they are serving prison time and subsequently has nothing to do with this matter. And debt forgiveness for people who struggle to repay student loans also has nothing to do with forgiveness by the Crown for wrongful conviction and imprisonment.

You probably class yourself as an Intelligent person, What (in your opinion) does a Gang prospect have to do to advance himself through the ranks?

What do you suspect his reputation was before police told him there was a reward of $20,000 for assistance in capturing Susan Burdett's murderer? Loved by many? An upstanding model citizen? Known for his generosity and kindness?

Agree. 2.5mill is looked down on (by some) as inadequate for 21 years. Well..after 21 years a free man...how much would the best of us have in the bank? Most would have only a small fraction of that after paying power rates and medical bills all that time....those costs maybe should be factored before deciding on the appropriateness of the payout. After 42 years of working as a "free" man...I don't have enough in the bank for more than a new small car. So perhaps the amount he has received is more like - say $6mill...taking into account his being supported all the way.
If he now buys a house in South Auckland he'll still have a million and a half in the bank. What is the problem with that?

Don't your kind own most of Auckland already? Seems like you've got that and now you want our prisons too?

You've got it bad. You'd wilt well before he did. You're exactly the type of person I despise.

Serious question. Do you think you'd do anything other than that if you had the same back round as he has?
