To every man upon this earth
Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods
Well if the weather men have any hope of predicting the weather nearly a week in advance, then you shouldn't feel bad about it. It's supposed to be much like today- cold southerlies and icy rain...
Of course, what would THEY know? It's gonna be![]()

Yea, and me being me hates the cold and stuff

If it's like this Tony, I'll be tucked up at home nice and warm. Aint no fun riding in weather like this.
Me too. No fun riding in this crap.Originally Posted by onearmedbandit
And for you Nth Islanders who are thinking of taking the piss- this isn't just a bit of rain. It's about 6°C. Icy rain and hail. Gusting winds. It's SHIT. We were loading the kids in the car when this almighty gust came roaring down the valley- there was a sound not unlike tyres skidding on wet roads and then a huge BANG! MrsB, who could see what was happening provided a very useful comentary "Shit! Shit! Shit! Oh my god!" so I had a look. Twas not a car, but a 6m plus sheet of currugated iron had been ripped from a roof and was now wrapped around a lamp post not 50m away.... Lovely day here...

Right. 'tis getting closer now. The weather forecast still doesn't look too good, but hopefully they are wrong...
MrsB has decreed that I shall be home by 6pm to help with the kids. I shall obey this command on pain of death. So that means leaving pretty bloody early, like maybe 6am. In theory the trip should be easy enough to do in 10 hours, but group rides being the way they are it is bound to take longer. OAB, how long does this trip normally take you?
My daughter telling me like it is:"There is an old man in your face daddy!"
You're fugging kidding me right Tony?? 6am? On my only day off? Jebus. ChCh to Nelson and back without Reefton etc would probably take just shy of 7hrs, depending on a few variables. Mate, this weather is looking very doubtful.
Cool, hows about 8 then? Take it you have countermeasures then?Originally Posted by onearmedbandit
Agree on the weather. Friday is looking betterer. Any chance of shifting the days?
My daughter telling me like it is:"There is an old man in your face daddy!"
Friday is looking betterer? Have to add that one to my dictionary!
Friday is definately no go, need to be here to gear up for the weekend. This weather is crap I tell ya.
Yep, betterer. Or I could have said that it's looking Gooder- see example below.Originally Posted by onearmedbandit
Looking at the maps it looks like one of those little fronts that bring breif rain and then bugger off. Quite often they are 'dry', so we might be OK. Agree about the weather tho- bring back winter! It was gooder than this!
